Is it normal for my legs to hurt whilst walking up stairs?

Ever since I can remember, I have had muscle pains after only a few seconds of exercise. Most people don't enjoy walking upstairs or uphill because they get out of breath. But for me, the muscle pains and heaviness come before I can even get out of breath. After 1 or 2 steps up I already feel this pain. I always have done since I was very young. Is this something everyone experiences when they are simply unfit but doesn't mention it or is this abnormal? I also get this pain in my arms from lifting anything heavy, and can only jog for about 10 seconds or so before stopping. I have tried going to the gym to get fitter and I also eat well but I still get these pains that stop me from getting fitter.

Could I have an undiagnosed muscle disease or am I overreacting?

    See your doctor.
This usually comes from people with a sedentary lifestyle. Your diet and hydration is a factor.

Bad joints... I dunno, go see a doctor.

I'd get it if you were 60, but someone young shouldn't have such problems.

Nope - never have been. If anything I'm just slightly underweight.

Maybe you should see a doctor. Physiotherapy is probably something they'll tell you to do.

Its probably a fat lard. She should just curl in a ball and roll down the stairs. Or if she needs to go up just take an elevator

I've always said to my girlfriend "If you get fat, I'll get fat too so we can roll down hills together."

It could be some type of condition, but for that you'd have to see a dr, but to me it sounds like you're just really, really out of shape.

A lot of people will disagree with me, but i think too many people go way too hard when starting out on an exercise routine. You shouldn't expect to go from zero to 100, balls out @ the gym. You'll hate it & feel like shit & you won't go back. I think the key is to start really, really slow. Add small amounts of excercise that you also enjoy & SLOWLY build your way up. This could be something as simple as a short walk in the park every day. I find that walking, cycling & especially swimming are really great for beginners because they are low impact & won't make you super sore & miserable. The key is just to start SLOW & keep it to a routine you can maintain. Doing it every day is way more important than going hard at first.

Besides helping w/ your muscle pain, exercise will imrove your sleep & it's so great for your mental health. I can't even describe how much better i do mentally when i put in the time to get regular exercise. If you can find something that you actually enjoy, like hiking or swimming, you will learn to really love being active.
