Is it ever okay to torture criminals into confession?

Well, is it? Is it ever okay to use more harmless forms of torture, such as waterboarding, as a last resort against convicted criminals?

Yeah it is 9
No it isn't 20

I dunno, but it's also possible for people to lie to make the torture stop.

  • What if they ended up being innocent then you’re torturing some person who doesn’t deserve it. Plus if they tell the truth and fess up then you know they are guilty and know the truth already.

Its not a reliable way to find out the truth, but if you know they're guilty but cant be convicted then torture away

You could torture someone into confessing to the Lindbergh Baby kidnapping but that wouldn't mean that they did it.

    Depends.
If My people are the ones doing it?
    Of course it's ok.
Only way to get the truth, they're trained to resist lesser measures.
BUT, If it's my people being tortured.
    Of course not.
You just get a false confession, to stop the pain.

Depends on the crime... I doubt torturing some sad bastard who robbed a supermarket would get you anything useful, or even teach the guy a lesson.... But serious criminals need to be dealt with in an efficient and quick matter...

Why would you need to torture someone who's already been convicted of a crime?

Generally, torture is used to get people to provide information; generally, people who are being tortured say whatever they think will make the pain stop.

The number of people who have been released from Death Row in the States and freed following lengthy prison sentences in more civilised places after their convictions have been found to be unsafe should be enough for people to understand that no criminal justice is perfect.

Unfortunately, lots of people believe that all cops and prosecutors are pure-hearted, noble servants of justice, that only bad people are ever arrested, and only guilty people are convicted. If you believe there's no chance they'll ever end up being the victim of a miscarriage of justice, it's easy to support treating accused people and convicted criminals inhumanely.

Exactly. Pigs are disgusting wastes of life who dedicate themselves to maintaining the status quo for the wealthy and providing slaves to the privatized prison-labor slave industry. It's sad how most people trust cops so absolutely when they really are the scum of the earth.
