Imagining people are around you

Is it normal that I’m always imagining people are in the room with me? Or when I’m walking down the street I talk in my head like I’m with someone else. I’ll imagine that they’re laughing at what I’m saying and stuff like that

Is It Normal?

  • Surveys show it’s common to have multiple internal monologues. It would only make you crazy if you couldn’t discern the monologue as your own and thought it was really another person talking to you.

  • Yeah ive always done that. I talk to myself at home out loud and I imagine a ghost or something listening. It's not like I believe that's actually the case but more of a fantasy thing.
I always talk to myself in my head when im outside. I answer myself too or its more of an inner voice that answers, and it always argues with me and gives me annoyingly good advice when im in a bad mood and just want to be grumpy in peace. If thats a crazy thing then well, at least its giving me positive affirmation I guess.

  • I think it's normal for the most part. You should be a writer, you have a good imagination

  • I do the same exact thing. So it’s 100% normal :)

  • i used to think of people watching me, especially imagining my crushes being impressed or intruiged by how i even lived my normal life. it was weird and i still dont know why i dod it so much. i catch myself doing it once in a while now but just laugh it off

  • I've always kind of done this as well, so I'd say it's normal! I've always felt in a way that I was being watched even if I know I'm not (I am still embarrassed if I do something stupid/something stupid happens to me when no one is around 🤣) and have had conversations in my head (I guess you can call that an internal monologue). I sometimes play out how I think a conversation with a certain person will go and how I will respond as well. I also tend to sometimes narrate out loud what I'm doing when I'm home alone. 🤣 Especially rattling off everything I need to get done.

I don't remember where I heard it, but years ago I heard that talking to yourself is a sign of a healthy brain. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but it wouldn't surprise me! I know many other people who do the same.

  • Same. But I talk to them in real life not in my head

  • This sounds like multiple personality disorder, talking in your head is normal, but actively imagining someone else responding isn’t (to my knowledge) ask a doctor.
