Is it normal to wait until after the hype has died down to check something out?

I did this with Squid Game. I didn't think the show looked bad, but I didn't think it could be as good as everyone was hyping it up to be. I ended up watching it a few months after everyone stopped talking about it and I loved it! I think it deserved all the hype. For some reason the hype at the time kind of lessened my interest in it

I get that too. The sad thing is though that once the hype dies down, fewer people want to talk about it.

The quality of a piece of media doesn't decrease over time, at least not when you wait until the hype is dead. And if you're worried that the hype might affect your opinion on it, then you worry too much.

I call it the "In-N-Out Effect". When In-N-Out burgers finally came to my state, all my California friends kept talking about how amazing it is and how it's totally worth waiting 45 minutes in the drive thru. When I finally got my food it was good but not great by any means. It was kind of a letdown. And yeah, I'm a compulsive worrier, so that probably plays a role

I said no because more than half the value is the hype. Its 2022 no one remembers the octopus games, people like Tom Cruise hard again.

I think it's normal. It's completely understandable that hearing about something over and over can lessen your interest in it, as it gets old fast.
