Is it normal to think sexual infidelity should be punishable by law?

It just sticks out to me as the worst thing you can do and not get in trouble. Unless partners agree that their relationship is not monogamous, cheaters caught having sex with other people should be hit with a fine at least or maybe even a jail sentence idk.

I know their is a lot of gray areas and stuff with this and idk how excatly this would be carried out, but I still like the idea because infidelity runs rampant nowadays.

Yeah let's hire thousands of extra cops to invade people's privacy even more

They can just about enforce the current laws, people have their houses robbed and have to wait days for the police to come sometimes

It is impossible to disprove a false accusation like this. And, there are always plenty of false accusations. This causes excessive administrative expenses to the justice system. No-fault divorce is the best recourse for society.

Nasty people will always fuck other nasty people. There's not much that can be done effectively about it. Mandatory DNA tests to confirm parents for new babies is mostly a waste of time.

It's more like guilty until proven innocent. If someone burgularizes someone's house, and then the person who got bulgularized sees someone who looks like the person who did it but who really didn't, the police will still take him in and only let him go if they then find further evidence proving that he didn't really do it.

Military law. For the armed forces being not faithful is a major issue for the forces because if you cant be faithful to your wife how can we trust you with your country.

If you're in a monogamous relationship and someone cheated on you, it's probably normal at first, while hurt and angry, to want all sorts of things to happen to that person.

After some time and cooling off, it's probably easier to realize that keeping track of that sort of thing is a waste of society's resources. And yours.

    • It being normal does not make it okay. I do agree that it's hard to regulate though.

Impossible to regulate actually. Maybe you should go and live in one of the strict muslim countries where governments think it's ok to police people's private sexual lives?

Let’s institute Sharia law then. We already have a Christian version of that growing in our culture. Let’s have the right wing establish all our morality laws! NOT!!!!

Sounds to much like old testament Jew laws, or muslim sharia laws.
If you keep your mate happy, you dont have to worry.
    If they cheat anyway.
    Youre better off without them.
But you cant make a law to force someone to love or desire you.
    It doesnt work that way.

God no, it shouldn't. Humans make mistakes. Sometimes they aren't a mistake in the persons pov, but even if you make it illegal, it won't stop it from happening. Unfortunately, humans aren't naturally monogamous species. Yes, we try, because we have a conscious, but sometimes people slip. What you are suggesting is starting to get Orwellian.

Yes, cheating is an awful thing for the person who has been cheated on, but we shouldn't control what people do with their sex life. As long as they are consenting adults, I don't think the government should have a say in that.

As a guy who believes that the people should be divided up into religious countries, I'd say it should be against the law in some and not in others.

Each religion has its own set of laws. Each country should base their laws off of their religion. There should also be an aetheist country, which would likely highly resemble America. The laws would make much more sense if all the people under the laws had the same religion. It's not a stupid idea, you just don't think it would work.

Marriage should be outlawed and people should be seen as the individuals that they are. Babies should be separated from their parents at birth and put in incubators, raised in a uniform manner, then placed under randomly selected adults' care under government supervision.

If cheating were illegal, a lot less people would get married.

As far as wasting society and law enforcement resources, well they waste time on a lot of other really dumb and petty shit, what would be one more waste?
Not that I agree that cheating should be illegal. I thin most of us would have a record if that were the case.

It is just that with all the other silly charges the court enjoys wasting time with, making it illegal to cheat would not take much.

I honestly don't care what happens to cheaters as long as it's unpleasant. I always judge people who commit infidelity harshly, and do so unapologetically. I also judge people who aren't married, and cheat on their partners. I don't think it's that hard to understand that one cannot have one's cake, and eat it too. Cheaters of all sorts are fundamentally selfish, and dishonest people.

I don't take issue with legal, and or criminal consequences for adultry, because one way, or another this is something that will not affect me as I choose not to live my life in such a dishonorable manner.

I had a good female friend with whom I had really great chemistry, we were like sisters when we would get together. However, when my friend started chasing a married man I dumped her like a sack of shit, and I have never once regretted my actions... not once!

Yeah we totally need more people in jail, great idea.

How bout nobody gets married cause its stupid. I fully support babies being illegal though, hate those damn things. Monogamy is a dumbass concept to get people to settle down in houses and breed. Take your vitamins and stuff. Don't think too hard. We totally need more government involvement in making this happen.

Dork. I bet you like cops ya nerd.

I've thought about this too but honestly it would take a lot of time from police. People cheat all the time unfortunately, there are too many selfish people out there with little to no empathy for anyone outside of themselves. Maybe a law would decrease the amount of cheating that happens, but when you look at everything illegal going on all the time, drugs being dealt out in the open in daylight etc. you realize that the chance of that is tiny. Maybe they could make some law against cheating in marriages, I think it's lame how many marriages don't last these days, they should make it more shameful to divorce and cheat unless the marriage is abusive so that people try harder. Relationships, especially marriages, are not a game.
