Is it normal to not want to go to college and get in debt?

I am a junior in highschool and don't have my future planned out. All my friends are planning on going to college when they graduate and i don't want to do that because, as everyone knows, student loans = debt for a good portion of your life. People keep telling me "it may cost a lot but what you get out of it is a high paying job to pay those loans." Maybe its just me but i think you can get a high paying job without a college degree and probably save more.

It's not normal, but it's not wrong. Your life isn't decided by college. Happiness can be obtained without college.

    yea you can

you can earn alot of money in this country thanks to business, and you dont need to go to college to open a business

all you really need to do is just pay your business taxes and get a business license

of course depending on your business, but im sure most businesses are this simple

A college diploma is nothing these days. What does a college grad say? Do you want fries with that?

Shit, you're bloody hell brilliant to not be buying into that scam!

Don't believe the bullshit. You're entirely right!
Land full scholarships - go to college.

St. loans? Hell no, avoid like you would any dark alley mafia salesman trying to sell you 'harmless' heroin.

College is fine *if* you are certain that your investment cost/benefit analysis, time table, and future career prospects are a sure bet. It is a bet, after all. Student loans in the U.S. are a massive trap. They're ethically wrong. It's a predatory system. I am all for higher education, but even this is purely a for-profit industry labeled as not-for-profit.

Be careful. Yes, you are wise to be cautious.

A college education does not guarantee success in life, people with advanced degrees are parking cars or cashiering in grocery stores all over America. We don't have the jobs that welcomed every college graduate any longer. It is foolish to go to college without a definite strategy. You need to research your options, set goals and be dedicated to your strategy.

I don't blame you for not wanting to go to college. With the U.S. government sticking their hands into the pot by guaranteeing the loans for the financial institutions the school probably feel like they can charge whatever they like for majors like gender studies, womens studies, and advance degrees in sociology. Most degrees aren't useful.

Getting a degree can help you get a satisfying career and an even more satisfying pay check however there are lots of other opportunities for people instead of going to university. You can study from home, do a work based qualification, or just jump right into work. Before you rule out college though consider what it is you want to do after school, your job of choice may require a degree or you may be able to go in with no prior qualifications. As for paying for university in the US (forgive me if I'm off, I'm from the UK) you may be entitled to grants or bursaries to help you pay for your course.

Most people I know that went to college didn't get those high paying jobs they were promised despite the fact that they worked hard in college, had a concrete plan, and high hopes/dreams. They're between 20,000-100,000 dollars in debt, they can't afford to feed themselves or their kids so they're on foodstamps, they can't afford a house so they live with their parents, and they have minimum wage jobs that barely pays the bills. They feel cheated and lied to. Some a bit suicidal. People look down on them saying "you didn't try hard enough" or "you're lazy" but that's not the case at all. I never went to college and they envy me. They should be the ones making more money than me and they should be the ones that are happy, but they're not.

Putting yourself in debt for school without a concrete plan of what it's actually going to do for you is stupid. Learn a trade skill.

College is not the only path in life you can choose to not do college. Its your life and your path so figure it out for you. There is no age limit for college so you can go whenever you want and you have your whole life ahead of you so don't rush. There's lots of possibility's out there for you that's not college.
