Is it normal to leave your dog in the wild?

I can't take care of him no more cause I'm moving to a no dog apartment and I can't afford his food. There's no shelters in my area that don't kill the dogs so I thought he has a better chance in the wild. I left a whole big pile of dog food and a bowl of water so he won't starve and can learn to fend for himself. H'es a tough dog some kind of mix breed so I think he can survive.

You got that right. I hate people who mistreat animals in any way.

Make yourself a big bowel of trail mix and walk off into the woods. You'll be fine.

Leave the dog with a friend when you do this.

No way. There are plenty of apartments that allow dogs. You should've taken him with you. If you can't afford to feed him you shouldn't have gotten him in the first place. He will not be ok.

I believe that question applies to the great majority of people in here.

        Very true.

And yet I usually get criticised for saying it...

Because there's no point in being mean about it. Everyone here is retarded ~ you come here to feel better about yourself because you feel inferior in your own life. It's okay, we all feel this way.

I come here to provide help to people who genuinely need it, in an altruistic effort to try and be a better person. On the other hand there's a paradox to it, i like ripping on some people depending on whether they deserve it or not and making funny remarks. I also do it in my bedtime, which is wrong, i should be definitely reading a book instead, but its pleasant to socialize with complete strangers about their afflictions. I also take enjoyment in giving the chance for other people to get to know me, i vent my thoughts and urges.

People like you should never be allowed to own animals. You should be ashamed of yourself.

No it's not normal. You should have tried to find him a home with another family. I'm sure you could have found someone willing to take the dog.

    Can he catch mice?

  • Owl_Girl

No, most dogs that were raised with people are not ready to live in the wild, and if dog shelters where you live kill the animals, odds are they will catch him and kill him anyway, that if something else does not kill him first. Even if you left him far away, he will try to come back to town. The best option was to find another home for him. If you can still look for him and do so, I strongly reccommend it.

nah bro that's messed up, a domestic dog doesn't know shit about surviving in the wild. he'll probably wind up dead soon enough.

No, it's not normal. If you can't afford to take care of your dog then you shouldn't have gotten one.

That's like leaving your pet zebra in a lion cage. Are you fucking brain dead? Why did you get him in the first place if you couldn't afford it?! What's gonna happen to him when he runs out of food? Climb trees to eat the apples? This isn't a fucking fairy tale, get some help.

Who let the dogs out? [Who, who, who, who?!]

It would have been kinder to put him down. Leaving a domesticated dog like that will mean he will probably suffer a slow death from starvation. He must be cold, scared and hungry by now. How can you sleep at night? Am sure you must have psychopathic tendencies to even contemplate what you've done.

only a pussy picks shelter over a dog. You'll die lonely on the side of the road one day.

its normal , i live in the country everyone does it , sometime i take them back into town and leave them at nursing homes . i figure they get petted once or twice before the go to the pound and then that dump truck drops them off at the land fill. circle of life thing.

im not raising your city dog , its not going to hang about my property , its normal that people drop them in the country , its where every unwanted dog gets dropped.

i drop them off at night in the dark so the security camera cant get me. i use the one in Warner Oklahoma . its the most secluded and the two cops are off duty. Country Living sure beats city life. after the dog is out i shop at the grocery store so as not to have wasted my gas money. then its over to the pawn shop to sell a dog collar.

If you can't find anyone to take him at least take it to a shelter. All it will do is run around the forest looking for another supper dish. Don't you care about it? Obviously not.

  • I live in the country, and I've seen several dogs that were presumably abandoned like yours.

It's kind of normal, but not right.

PS: I've had stray dogs come to the land where I live and kill my dearest chickens. People like you are what caused that loss for me, so your post kind of pissed me off.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
    • Okay. Sorry about your chickens. But this is proof dogs can survive on their own. I don't feel bad about abandoning my dog because there was no other options.

You don't feel bad that your dog is most likely dead? If not, cold, starving, scared, alone and wondering where is owner is?
