Is it normal to kind of hate my cat?

IDK if it's because it's a male cat, but he's annoying. Meows constantly as soon as I wake up at 5:30. Pesters me when I take my shower. Jumps into my laundry hamper and cabinets if they're left open. He'll be 2 y/o in April. I mean it's a cute cat and I don't always hate it. I was coerced into taking him as a kitten. Rent's increasing. I feel obligated to him. I know I'm selfish. I don't want to take care of him, but I still do. Do you think he will get less annoying? He seems so needy sometimes. I only have 626 sq ft to share.

    That’s literally what cats do.

You need to catify your living space!

    • I gave him a scratch pad. It's shaped like an ocean wave. He has another normal round scratch pad with the ball that spins around it (but I took out the ball). He has another three story ball toy where a ball spins around each of the three tiers. He has his window spot where he's constantly perched looking out the window. I am limited on space to give him much more than that

  • I wish I could upload a sound of it meowing. Best I can do is compare meows to celebrities. It's not like a soft, innocent sounding meow like Marilyn Monroe. It's like if Bobby Lee was my cat

'If Bobby Lee was my cat'. I'm sorry, that is the best sentence I've read on this site.

If you don't feel equipped to care for the cat, then maybe you should look into rehoming it. Tons of people would find the attributes you find annoying to be endearing

You shouldn’t have a cat, but you do, so you must make it work. You just aren’t made to be a cat owner, which is fine, don’t get another one.

He’s probably bored to death in such a small area, remember you get to leave and have many connections, he literally only has you and you have no interest in him.
I’ve been stuck with animals and we’ve shared a mutual hatred for eachother before and it’s absolutely a horrible experience the entire time, still I owe them everything as an owner.
But I swear to god the worst ones live the longest

    • Do you think I should change his dry food? I feed him Crave cat food which is supposed to be on the healthier side from what I've gathered. He'll eat it, but I can tell it's just because he knows that's what's available. I've been feeding it to him for I guess a year maybe. He loves the wet food and the dental treats, but is never as excited for the dry food. My parents have had cats. If I recall, I thought they all showed more interest in their dry food than this one, but I can't remember.

Wet food has moisture in it and cats prefer to get it from food than from their water bowl. I have known cats to just lick off the gelatin and leave the meat!

I wouldn’t know your brands of cat food, but I was always told that wet food is full of sugar and rots their teeth out, though they go crazy for it it isn’t what’s best for them.
I only give wet food to one of my seniors who is missing teeth

        • I give him one can of wet food per week. It's a healthy brand. I was told a cat needs wet food for urinary health

You sound like you do care. You could put out a social media post on a Facebook group in your area to see if anyone wants a cat.

        • Also, the cat was a stray so if I were to give him up, he's gotten almost 2 good years that he wouldn't have had.
