Is it normal to have an irrational fear of fishing?

Ik it's weird, and whats weirder is that I actually like fishing, like as an activity. I love the ocean and I love sea creatures and to see that with your family and friends seems like a great way to spend the day.

But something about the fishing hook freaks me out. I feel like as they cast the rod the hook will get caught in my skin, or my eye, maybe rip off my ear. I keep seeing these images and want to stay as far as I can when casting. Does anyone else have the same fear?

Fish hooks are dangerous. Maybe take up free diving and spear fishing.

Drinking beer in a boat is a good enough reason.

  • I don't like touching worms or fish, but I like casting and reeling them in

As long as you understand how physics relates to your body and what you do, you should be able to cast without too much fear
