Is it normal to hate it when people eat inside of my car?

The one pet peeve I have an insane amount of dislike for is when people eat inside of my car, it's so annoying, so annoying that I have to end up cleaning my ride.

If you also drive a car, you'll probably understand what I'm saying it's a pain to keep cleaning.

Agree with you on that. I got a set of rules for my car.

    1. No smoking!
    2. No eating. Exception for my mom and wife, as long as the snacks are non-crumbly, or sticky.
    3. No feet on dashboard!
    4. No backseat driving!
    5. Don't ask me if you can drive, you can not!
    6. Don't mess with car settings. Adjusting your seat, turning on/ off seat heating or cooling is fine. But don't start pressing buttons.
    7. For women - NO handbags on the center console! Wood trim can get scratched very easily!

I agree 100%. They drop crumbs and eat sticky things that get on the upholstery. I had a new Cadillac Escalade and parked it a a park and ride for a day trip and when I got back I found it covered with ants because my granddaughter had left a half eaten cake in the back. I was so pissed.

Your car is your personal space and I think your attitude is reasonable. No civilised person would show up at someone else's house with the anchovy, prawn and gorgonzola pizza they've bought for dinner, plonk themselves on the sofa, put their feet up on the coffee table and chow down. That's just frigging rude.

I have no problems with people drinking water in our car, but I wouldn't be happy with anything else being consumed. Laps are not tables and the space is limited, so it's awkward to eat anything gracefully, and passengers are constantly being moved and jolted around. It's inevitable that stuff will get dropped and spilled, and expecting someone else to clean up a mess you've made is uncouth.

I don’t care. My car is an oversized trash bin. I’m more annoyed at having to clean it out when giving people rides.

That's a very reasonable thing to dislike, and it's well within your right to have rules for your own vehicle, which include no eating.

Personally, I don't mind it if it's food that is easy to eat without making a huge mess, and the people are generally not messy eaters. One thing I can't stand is people leaving their trash in my car, though. I'll always make sure to point it out if they start to get out without taking it with them. I get people forget, but I don't want them making a habit of it or thinking it's okay to use my car as a trash can. Same with my house; please don't leave food and trash lying around when the trash can is only a few feet away.

Years ago, a friend of my ex lit up a cigarette in my car without asking me, and I thought that was extremely rude. I couldn't completely get rid of the smell for a couple of days, even though he put it out as soon as I asked him to (which was immediately).

Have you ever seen that commercial or just anything suggesting when someone has food you just roll down the window and throw it out? yeah, I’d do that.

    • So as in throwing it while driving?

Probably not the safest, wait til you’re at a light or something, look them in the eye and chuck it.

No that won't work, they could always get more food. Throw the person out instead.

    • So say if they eat something sticky and it goes on the floor, wouldn't you too be annoyed by that?

        • That's why I always tell people to eat later or when I arrive home with them.
