Is it normal to give yourself pep talks?

I've never understood why giving yourself compliments and pep talks would work. Sure, I like myself and my body and think positive thoughts, but compliments or pep talks? They'd just seem fake and I'd get annoyed with myself. They wouldn't work at all, so to tell people to do that would be a very weak advice. Does anyone do this?

I know how you feel. The whole concept of having to constantly flatter yourself because nobody else will do it for you is just depressing.

      The alternative is even worse.

You have to make yourself believe the things you say. If you don't, it will never work.

    • Wouldn't that basically be lying to yourself? (If it's not something true of course.)

Maybe. Or maybe not if you make yourself believe it, and then it becomes true by your belief in it. I don't really know sometimes.
