Is it normal to believe that today's music sucks?

I am only 30, and I hate the vast majority of current music. I feel like it's all terrible, either vapid and shallow ("Call Me Maybe", "Friday", anything by Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande) or it's a ripoff of something better from the past (either through heavy sampling, direct copying, or being so similar that the current artist was clearly not trying to be original).

Is it normal to feel this way, or am I just being a music snob?

When you say "today's" music sucks, i think you mean the charts suck. Talent will always be there, no matter the time period, you just have to search for it.

It's not that it sucks, music has just evolved and you're not a fan of it. I'm sure previous generations thought the same about the music you like

Agreed, but most of them probably complained more about music from the past That the vast majority have now forgotten about. I dunno how many times I have encountered a record from a band that seemed popular in the 1970s, but is unavailable on anything newer than an 8-track tape. Usually, the stuff we hear from the past is the songs that stood the test of time, and found dedicated fans.

Yes exactly what "heybitch" said .. There's always amazing music out there you just have to go out and find it. It's normal to hate all the popular music cause 90% suck and apply to what you said. There is definetly good music out there though.

There's great music being made. .. You won't find it on television or comercial radio.

Today's music does indeed suck. But, as someone has already said, there is good music out there, just don't look for it in the charts or on mainstream media.

Try music outside of America (and the major west [USA, UK, Canada] as a whole) or indie artists.

I just ask: What happened to chords? I hear only major chords, minor chords and dominant 7ths -- and yes, "power chords".
