Is it normal to be turned down for a job for a really stupid reason?

They turned me down because I "don't have experience with SnagIt" which is a simple screen capture tool. I have many years of experience with professional multimedia applications and could probably learn this tool in less than 10 minutes.

It sometimes happens, I’ve been rejected because they went for someone older with 4 years experience. It was a role with “Trainee” in the job title.

Hopefully you will find an organisation with better hiring practices soon.

Sounds like an excuse. Unfortunately very many people often apply for the same jobs nowadays making those who hire extremely picky because they feel they can afford to be.
