Is it normal that my period blood is almost always dark brown?
I rarely have red blood on my tampon when I pull it out. It's usually dark red/brown. Does that mean old blood?

intact red cells will remain dark red , when they lyse and release hemoglobin the result is a more brown rust like iron stain especially on a cellulose tampon material that acts like a chromatographic material separating intact hemoglobin and its noncovalently bound Iron molecule. none of this shit is made up. except even the color of shit comes from blood via the liver the gallbladder in the form of sterco bilirubin or Stercobilinogen. i think both are correct in the history book. its been over 50 years.
Hydration is not an issue for me. I generally drink about 90 ounces of water or unsweetened hot tea per day. Usually very little caffeine (maybe coffee two cups a week), very rarely do I drink soda or juice (maybe 3 cups a month). It's usually just plain water, and a lot of it, so much so that my pee is almost always nearly clear.
