Is it normal that my dreams make no sense?

Last night, I had a dream that I was Donkey Kong, and I was trying to save the world from communism, led by Ozzy Osbourne, who was threatening to equally distribute my banana hoard to everyone in China. Not joking, this was my actual dream, and it felt extremely realistic.

I once had a dream back in 1983 that I was at a Duran Duran concert, then suddenly Gargamel and his cat Azrael emerged from the audience, and turned all the members of Duran Duran into smurfs.

What a creative dream, I wish mine were like that. The last weird one I got was after watching a few YouTube videos by two guys, I dreamed of them sprawled on a couch with one trying to breastfeed off the other’s nipples.

    They’re all symbolism.

They make perfect sense, just not to you.

Dreams rarely make sense. The subconscious sends you messages in the form of symbols, and metaphors. It’s up to you to determine the meaning. At least part of this dream is a sexual metaphor for the waste of sexual energy, symbolized by the bananas which are penises. Another level to this dream is physical, like you’re having prostate problems. I’d have to have more info to give you more.

More likely dreams are indicating that during sleep the logical part of the brain is having a rest and random illogical thoughts are occurring, which become mixed up together. You sound like a Freudian: not everything in dreams is a symbol or metaphor of anything: I thought this idea had been debunked decades ago!

Hardly. Modern psychology is seeing more relevance to dreams than ever before.

If you really want to mess up your dreams, learn about 'lucid dreaming'.

One thing I promise actually works. Throughout the day ground yourself, name three physical objects in the room as many times as you can through the day. While you are in bed, name as many objects in the room as you can, even if you can't see them. When you fall asleep you will know you are dreaming, and from there things can get weird.

Do not mess around with this, it really does work and can lead to some really fucked up nightmares. Or really good dreams

That's interesting: there are two homes in my past I occasionally dream about, but I have no idea why given how many other places I've also lived in
