Is it normal that it bothers me when people eat like a pig?

So I have people in my family and they eat like pigs. It really bothers me as they eat like there isn't tomorrow. I often facepalming asking myself " Why am I in a house filled with pigs? "

Is this a normal thing to be annoyed at this?

  • Its easy to judge the little nuances and practices of those we are around quite often. Im sure that your family doesn't act like pigs at a nice restaurant or at a dignified event. If they do though, I can see why you're dusgusted by their behavior and lack of manners.

Because they don't do that in a restaurant but they do this at home.

I bet 100% if they did that in a restaurant they'd be kicked out.

      • Lol. Ok they do sound extreme then. Maybe talk to them? Let them know you're uncomfortable about the way they act like pigs?

I will do what you said,

Which is talking it out like normal people would.

          • Use the embarrassment angle. Let them know that you arent proud of the way they act. It works believe me.

People don't talk about it because it sounds mean but yes, it is normal to find it gross when people eat like this. People should try and have respect for the other people at the dinner table, it's just basic manners.

There are things in this life we can change and things we can't. Happiness comes from figuring out the difference, changing what we can and learning to accept what we can't alter.

If you've expressed your disapproval and your relatives are unable or unwilling to eat in a manner which you find acceptable, then you have the choice of continuing to get upset about this or learning how to accept it. Your choice.

You sound like my old man. He always makes it a point to say something similar whenever he realizes that my anger has got the best of me.

Absolutely. Do they do disgusting things like chew with their mouths open and smack their lips? I can't STAND that shit.

I was eating out with a friend once in a relatively nice restaurant, and he began eating his food, which was too hot, and opened his mouth and started breathing similarly to a fire breathing dragon and saying "Ahhhh... hot!", kept doing it instead of waiting for the damn food to cool down, and then he chewed with his mouth open and smacked his lips. I was so disgusted I completely lost my appetite. We were both grown adults at the time, by the way.

On a separate occasion, said friend's kid sister kept inching closer and closer to me at the table (I was by the wall; big mistake), leaning and grabbing onto me while friend egged it on, and talked with her mouth full and spit a wad of food onto my arm. Both proceeded to laugh like it was the funniest thing ever while I had a horrified, disgusted, and pissed off look on my face. Then, friend had the nerve to ask me what was wrong, because I "looked mad". Well no shit!

I also could never eat lunch in school because of how disgusting the other kids were (and since they knew I was grossed out by the way they ate, they made a big show out of it, complete with the "see-food" thing), as well as the fact that our cafeteria always smelled horrible because they only served questionably edible stuff that barely even resembled food. When I was invited to eat in a teacher's classroom with another kid, the kid farted really loud and made a huge spectacle out of it, and was an equally disgusting eater. I just got to the point to where I was never even hungry around lunchtime, lol.

I also can't eat around babies and small children. Watching them eat completely grosses me out.

The thing I really don't get is how so many grown adults these days lack basic table manners (or manners in general, or even the slightest bit of common decency). Did their families never teach them anything?

Oh, man...I cannot stomach seeing really little kids and babies eat. Food is everywhere but inside their mouths. They squish it and fling it around. And the parents take photos because, supposedly, it's "cute". No, it's fucking nasty. Ugh.

I eat loads and will happily eat over 2000 calories in one sitting. Just let others eat how they want without judging.

There are worse things... physically abusive or emotionally abusive family members, narcissistic family members, slothful family members, or kleptomaniacs, to mention but a few.

I think people need manners not slopping all over the table. Share the food with others so everyone gets a share. Overeating leads to obesity and lots of medical problems. In this era eating is all we have. Buy better quality food and eat slower.

This post reminds me of when my cousin stayed over my house. He got super whiny and offended about how I ate too fast and ate too much.

I told him "when you have enough money to afford your own house, THEN you can dictate how other people eat. Till then, mind your own damn business."

He shut up and never complained again. XD

Oh well, that's your preferred eating mannerism but trust me eating fast more often than not introduces more air in your digestive system, and that's some extra farts for people who can't get off your back about your eating habits.

It is gross, but you shouldn't pkick them in the head so hard when they are sitting down just because they are a different race or they eat different foods.
