Is it normal that i was bullied in school for liking older music?

I'm 22 now, but I remember how I was constantly mocked in elementary-school and middle-school for my " outdated " taste in music. This was around 2006 to 2009, and the music I listened to was from the 70s and 80s.

Kids who bully other kids will pretty much bully anyone for anything. It doesn't make it morally correct, but it's normal enough.

I actually made a lot of friends in school over liking classic rock.

Kids will bully for just about anything, but the funny thing is that era of music (also my favorite) generally seems to be the most well received and popular out of all of the "classic" eras from what I can tell. There are still plenty of radio stations that exclusively play it, it's in a lot of current pop culture, and a lot of it is pretty well known. Kids typically like the music and trends their parents grew up with, too (hence why a lot of trends seem to circle around about every 30 years or so).

    • And music from 2006-2009 is pretty damn maligned nowadays. LOL.

        • I wouldn't be surprised if it will have a revival in the future though tbh. Even if something stinks, people will still be nostalgic for it.

True, just a certain amount of time needs to pass, it seems. Old things seem to come back "in" at some point or another.

Reminds me of the time I got my nick name *grandpa* in middle school. I listen to music from the 1920's-50's & had my headphones on doing school work on one of the PC's when one of the kids in class pulled the jack out. He must have thought I was listening to heavy metal or ghetto wangster rap because he just stood there & looked at me when he heard ~Maybe by the Ink Spots~. Then my teacher looks at me shaking his head trying not to laugh & says "God boy, that shit was old when I was your age".

It's normal people will always bash us for liking something we like differently.

During my school years I was always made fun of for liking metal music I was always told things like " System Of A Down sucks " or " Metallica sucks " etc.

When I think about why they do it, I suspect it's because they see your tastes of music as inferior to them and they feel the need to put you down for your uniqueness. I also seem to think that the people who bully others are greatly insecure about themselves.
