Is it normal that i removed my own gum flap around my wisdom tooth?

I have a wisdom tooth erupting on the left side of my mouth. There was a gum flap over that wisdom tooth. I was able to use my tongue to play with it because it was actually able to lift up. It got so loose that considered pulling it out, and I actually did. Fortunately, it was not too painful, but it did take some time. I just grabbed a pair of tweezers and reached back there. I pulled it back and forth with the tweezers until it eventually budged. At that point, it was completely detached from the rest of my gum. I was relieved because that gum flap had driven me mad. It's a lot easier for me to clean that tooth properly now. It also feels more comfortable to have that open space back there.

I can't decide how to vote. While it seems sort of normal to try and fix things yourself, I can't fathom trying that one on your own. I had surgery for that and still had one of them wisdom teeth extracted at a later time.

I did the EXACT SAME THING just a few months ago. Was afraid I wouldn’t get it properly clean, which can lead to infections under the flap and in the gum. Generally this means extraction, and since mine have come in fairly straight I’d like to keep em’. What amazed me was how little gum was there considering how large it felt in my mouth.

Take really good care of them, dont eat too muxh sugar, because they tend to get cavities and rot easier than others. I tried to keep mine and I'm going january to remove the last one

Yes, I removed them for those exact same reasons. I tend to get paranoid about infections, so it was a relief to eliminate it at least greatly reduce that risk by removing my him flap. Also, I know what you mean about the actual size of it. It felt larger in my mouth, but when looked at it after taking it out, I noticed that it looked so tiny and flimsy.

My mate pulled his own molar out. He had an abscess under it and apparently it could have killed him if he swallowed the fluid from it. Ugh

That was hardcore. I hope it didn't get infected afterwards. Probably not, since he used whiskey. There would have still been a chance of infection if he would have neglected it after that though.

I had to remove my gum flap too when I qas a teenager. It was like stuck over the tooth where the tooth barely poked through and I couldnt let it go.
