Is it normal that i hate my dad’s compliments

i hate to sound like a bitch (i don’t think i am) but i cannot stand when my father compliments me. EVERY time I see him he marvels at how beautiful i am and i’m not sure why but it drives me mad. he talks about my hair, makeup, my height, how lucky he is. i feel like he has nothing else important to say other than the same 20 compliments we have to get over every time i see him. i end up saying thank you like fifteen times and it feels extremely awkward for me. i just want him to act normal like we know each other. does anyone else have someone in their life that does this? (or can you picture it?)

for votes, vote yes its normal if you hear me out

ps. i believe i’m generally willing to accept compliments. but it feels like he acts so dramatic every time he sees me and it annoys the crap out of me to hear him start

That does sound weird. It also does sound tiring, especially since he does that every time.

I have a beautiful 13 year old daughter and I can relate to your dad's habit to some extent. When it comes to complimenting my daughter about her beauty I try my level best to do it in moderation.

In a situation like yours, humor is your best friend. You can crack jokes about how his compliments are a little too much for your liking. Chances are he will get the message eventually and tone it down.

Remember, be creative, keep it light-hearted.

He's trying to build your confidence. It's a good thing to do as a parent. It sounds like he's excessive with it.

My dad always told me how beautiful I am. And how he loves to hear me sing. It’s good dad shit. You should expect the same thing in a partner.
