Is it normal that i hate fantasy or sci-fi movies?

People of my age look at me with surprise and horror when I say them I don't like to watch GoT, Avengers or Star wars. For some reason, I don't have any interest in watching them. I would enjoy a good comedy movie though.

Normal to not like Avengers for sure id say, star wars not as normal but still understandable for sure.
I'd say not as normal if you don't wanna see the actual good proper sci-fi movies like blade runner,Ex Machina, gravity, martian...ect.

I mean even then it's still normal to not like them because it's normal to have your own taste in art even an unpopular one.. but id say it's less common for people to not like the ones i listed or ones like it and/or like really good classic sci-fi films.

I can't stand them either. They send me to sleep. I slept through half of lord of the rings. Star Wars lost it after the first 3 films. I hate any kind of super hero or marvel movie. It's all just a batshit boring CGI FX showcase with over exposed big name sell out actors. The humour is lame also. It's kind of targeted at teens. Avatar was the biggest pile of steaming shit I've ever seen. Both the recent Alien sequels were load of old shit. It's all shitty shit shit and more shit.

You sound like you have good taste. I loved hereditary many people I spoke to didn’t, but I think they didn’t understand what it tried (and succeeded) at doing, they went into it expecting a straight up generic horror, which it isn’t.
I’ll check out beast, I haven’t seen that one, looks interesting.

Hereditary was fantastic. Beast is amazing!! Very dark. My fave last year.
            I also loved annihilation.

Fantasy is probably my favorite genre, but I fucking hate the avengers movies. Game of thrones is okay, but not my favorite. I like star wars though. Anyway,I think that's pretty weird. Maybe you'd like it more if you watched something outside all the commercialized popular stuff.

So because you don’t like 3 movies you don’t like the entire filmographies of those genres?
    Keep truckin hombre

    • Those are just few examples. Yes, I hate the entire filmographies of those genres. Any problem?

Sorry I’ve been a bit rude here trying to convey a point of keeping an open mind towards film. A lot of sci fi is actually using a sci fi premise to convey something else, often a dramatic theme, something very human. It’s used often in allegory. I think perhaps you view sci fi in popcorn terms, as the more big budget stuff which is like pulp entertainment. I find it’s a genre which is impossible to approach in a narrow minded fashion. But I thought about my comment and I thought “I don’t like chic flicks, but I’ve only seen a few and haven’t bothered exploring them further.” So in this sense I am a hypocrite. Of course we use what little we’ve seen as examples on a larger scale. So my apologies.

All the examples you've listed here are things that I also don't like. They suck. But i like proper sci-fi - that really interests me.

Same. I love sci-fi and fantasy books, but all I watch is comedy. I'm not a movie / TV person myself.

Hey, you like what you like, but it's weird... I mean how could anyone dislike Interstellar. Sci-fi movies like that are absolute masterpieces. No intergalactic wars and no superpowers, but a lot of science and even more heart.

At least you're not being a dick about what you like, like romcom lovers... If you tell a romcom lover you don't like that stuff, they will flip out and go ballistic.

        • But it doesn't have to be abnormal if someone doesn't watch it.
