Is it normal none of my grandparents names were their real names?

My grandparents were 1st generation ( kids of immigrants) born here. Most born between 1920-1930.
Doing some research almost none of them went by their birth named almost like it was a secret.
Grandma Jeannie was Genevieve
Grandpa Ted was Taddeuz
Uncle John was Jan
Aunt Amelia was Michealine, etc.

Seems weird to me what yiu think?

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • That's normal, they just changed their names to ones that were easier to pronounce for the people of the country they moved to. Likely saved them a lot of time and avoided embarrassing situations.
