Is it normal my friend likely has an imaginary gf

I think one of my guy friends has an imaginary gf.
Hes always had bad luck with women. He's very feminine for a guy, not in how he looks but his personality and he lives with his mom and has no income so I guess thats why its hard.
Hes had internet girlfriends when he was younger and he and still talks about it.
A little over a year ago he claimed to now have an internet gf. He's given contradicting details about her which makes no sense. He doesnt have her as a friend on facebook. Only place i've seen them follow each other is Steam and Twitter.
I know my friend roleplays in video games a lot with female avatars and he uses a unisex name on all his socials... Anyway this girls Steam profile is the only social tied to her that seems legit due to all the activity ranging years back.
She has no profile pictures, it's a pic of an oversexualized anime girl.
She hasnt typed anything aside from her bio and it sounds identical to my friends writing style/use of words she even uses the cutesy emoji my friend overuses...Her content on Twitter is only retweets of gaming-content and the account became active the SAME MONTH my friend supposedly met her... 🤔 Their content on Twitter is the same.
The most sus thing was when him and I was playing a game and as usual he was using a girl avatar, but the thing is...HIS AVATARS NAME WAS THE SAME NAME AS HIS GIRLFRIEND... So he was playing AS HER in the game... That was weird as hell and almost fully convinced me she's made up, like that she's one of his gaming alters... I'm not sure if I should be concerned? Being in your late 20s and doing something like this is concerning but everything points at her not existing. Hes weird in general like he claims he can read peoples minds and see ghosts... Stuff like that. He's a cool guy but he's a bit special.

If he is aware of it himself, don't worry.

He sounds like an interesting person. I have an imaginary s/o myself but I wouldn't call your friend normal specifically because he is lying to the world (at least the internet) about the relationship. That part concerns me, as well as possibly the reading minds bit depending on how serious he is about it.

    • Oh he's very serious about it. He avoids many people because he says it's exhausting to be bombarded with the thoughts of many people at once...
I never thought he'd get an imaginary girlfriend and tell people about it though.
He's probably a bit 'special' in some sense even though you wouldnt think so unless you knew him so I dont judge but I find some things like a bit concerning.

It's not concerning, I'm 24 and I have an imaginary boyfriend, because I know I will never have a real one. My imaginary friends/boyfriends help me to cope. And no it's not because I'm ugly or because no guys like me, quite the contrary; It's just that the things I find attractive are so ridiculously obscure and specific things that are impossible to realistically find people who possess those traits I find attractive. So I make do with the imaginary ones because it's all I'll ever have. Is it so wrong to wish for some kind of romance or love in your life? But yet to be cursed with the fact that nobody gives me that spark those butterflies? I will not ever apologise for having imaginary boyfriends. And anyone who thinks I need help can BITE MY SHINY METAL ASS! In the words of Bender.

Yes and not only am I lonely but other people kick me when I am down and "try" to make me feel bad about it; calling me names like "creepy", "weird", "freak" or whatever tf else lame childish insults they can come up with. Well it must be so easy to have no standards (to them.) Btw my imaginary boyfriends/friends they made fun of I have are a North Korean soldier, a tornado, a ghost of a young boy, an albino and a Japanese bro and sis - each of them serves a different purpose and helps me cope in a different way. The one I am in love with is the NK soldier and the tornado.

Amen. I know the cruelty that you endure. Please be well.
