Is it normal my acne has gotten worse since starting to use makeup

The whole point of using makeup was to cover my acne and blemishes (and just for fun) but it seems like it's making me break out into pimples even more.

As someone who rarely breaks out, wearing makeup made me break out more often and with more pimples, even when I washed it off at the end of the day. It also made my skin drier and more red/blotchy. Unfortunately, I don't think makeup is the best for our skin.

I also only used cheap brands I could find at places like Wal-Mart (I never wore it enough to justify spending much, since it needed to be thrown out due to age before it was used up), so I'm unsure if higher quality makeup would be better or not. I believe there are makeup lines for sensitive skin/acne prone skin, but I'm not 100% sure.

Make sure you're thoroughly washing your makeup off at the end of the day, if you aren't already. There may be an acne face wash that will help as well.

Wearing a mask made me break out more as well, and if I don't wash my face really well after eating fruits such as apples, peaches, pears, etc., I will break out around my mouth. Sun tan lotion also did it to me once. Any chance any of these could also possibly be the culprit?

Neutrogena makes an excellent product called On the Spot Acne Treatment that I highly recommend. I've been using it since I was 12, and as long as you don't mess with the pimples too much, it will make it go away faster in my experience.

Do you wash your face before bed?

They have makeup that won't make you break out (apparently) but you will have to shell out the extra money for it. Also be incredibly sanitary with your tools. You will probably have to use one time sponges and consistently clean your brushes. We may not like to admit it but people who use makeup can get lazy about keeping tools clean and a lot of bacteria builds up on them.

Cheaper makeup is famous for making acne worse.

The higher quality makeup tends to not have those problems... but cost real $$$.

Yes make up can be comedogenic which means it can clog your pores. Try to find make up that has clay in it or is for oily skin and is non comedogenic. Good luck!
