Is it normal i want to change my name at 40?

It's not a new feeling I've always disliked my name and felt it doesn't suit me. As I'm getting older I'm trying to be abetter version of myself I want and get rid of certain aspects that don't serve me. I really want to change my name to Jenny Rose. I'm only worried because idk how people will react. At first my husband said he's ok with it but now he thinks I'm having a crisis or something.
I'm trying to be better and get rid of old persona I don't like. I actually think I was named after my dad's old girlfriend anyway( something akin to Mandy or Suzie) but my mom had wanted Jennifer and I feel Jenny Rose suits me a lot better.

It's your name. Do it. People will adjust. I've gone through a name change too. Better to do it now than regret not doing it. You can try just going by this name for a while before legally changing it. You'll feel better being called by your true name (Jenny rose) I had changed my name in my head years before I came out with it and being called my new name feels so right and satisfying.

Could be worse: you might have been named after your father's favourite stripper. Candy, Amber, Tiffany, Krystal, Brandy, Jade, Cherry, etc.

As you must know, people don't often change their name at your stage of life. So unless you're also planning to uproot yourself, move to somewhere completely new, start a new job and build a completely new life, I can see this causing all sorts of problems of varying degrees of seriousness. Friends finding it difficult to make a sudden change to a new name, the impact of a name change on official records and documents, the name on references from previous employers needing to be explained to prospective employers are things that immediately come to mind.

Frankly, I have to wonder if you're fixated on this idea because you believe that simply changing your name will have a magical, transformative effect on your life. Things are rarely that simple.

    • You might be right on that last part.

I might just just decide to be Jenny in my own mind instead of outwardly .
