Is it normal i use nicknames for all of my pets?

All of my pets have real names, but I tend to use nicknames instead. Most people give their animals names like "Scooter" "Skittles" "Mocha" so I have a hard time believing they'd give their animals nicknames. I tend to give my animals fairly human-sounding names, but they get nicknames nonetheless.
