Is it normal i sometimes wish i was born earlier?

I was born in 1999. I was exposed to the Internet at a young, probably too young, at around 8. I grew up in a time where the Internet and social media were in their infancy, they were prevalent but nowhere near as influential as they are now.

Sometimes I feel like my life has been a bit too easy. Maybe if I had grown up at a time before the Internet was so big, I wouldn’t be so used to just having everything provided for me. My embarrassing childhood blunders wouldn’t be out there for all to see (even if I was anonymous), and maybe I would have spent more time bettering myself rather than looking at screens all day. Even just a few years earlier and I probably wouldn’t have fucked up as much, at least not as publicly. I know it seems hypocritical because I’m using the Internet now, but I just wish I could have grown up in a time where I had to do more for myself so I wouldn’t be so lazy now.

Well there is no time like now to make a change. If whatever you did is not too serious you can just pretend you are "back in the day". Quit social media, go on a campaign to delete everything you can from the internet about yourself, stop watching TV, commercials, politics, stay away from the computer, stop texting, move to a new place and live a simpler life. It can be done. Eventually people will forget about you and whatever it is you did and you can make new friends. Sounds extreme? maybe it is but figure out what you need to do to move forward with no regrets for what happened in the past. Execute a "do over" from this point forward. Pretend you are in the witness protection program... change your appearance, your name, your habits. Anyway you get the idea... no regrets.

Pretty much. Life is what we make it at the end of the day

This is very interesting... if you had been born 20 years before that you would have heard from the elders how life was so different "back in the day" and how your life now is so much easier than theirs was. I think Gen Xers and older Millennials got the best of both worlds.

    • Good point. People have ALWAYS been talking about the “good old days.” I remember seeing a video from 1929 that featured old people talking about “the good old days!”

Totally get what you’re saying and find it refreshing to hear that from someone of your generation. I consider myself very fortunate to have grown up before the invention of the internet, CCTV, mobile phone’s and social media.

I was also born in 1999 too and I don't think it's nowhere near as terrible as having to be born in like, 2006 or something. We atleast spent most of our younger childhood without these damn smartphones since the iPhone wasn't released until 2007, and it really didn't become truly mainstream until 2010-2011 or so.

I am just satisfied with when I was born. There's so many inventions yet to come and I wanna experience them all

I saw a YouTube video where this guy was saying the instant gratification we get today makes us more depressed. We dont have to work for anything because it's instant. You get your dopamine rush from likes or whatever instead of from accomplishing something

You make a point that I been telling people for years now. When I was a kid we drank out of the garden hose, rode our bikes without lights and helmets, we actually had to go outside to play and actually go to a friend's house to talk to them or call them. These days it seems so many spoiled little shits want the newest iPhone handed to them, they tell their parents they are full of shit or tell them they are not gonna do what they are told and then when the parents discipline them the kids want to call the police to say they are being beaten. Our dad would have told us you better call an ambulance too cuz when police leave you will need it. Kids today are to fuckin spoiled.

I always wish I was born later, or earlier, or just at a different time in general. It's normal to wish something had gone different.

Females get treated better when they are out an about in the world by random men... but usually for all the wrong reasons.

Because so many guys think they are the perfect man for the female in the situation. Ego, macho, or in some cases even the "God Complex". Some guys think they are Gods gift to women. Sort of like so many guys think that if they were able to sleep with a lesbian, that they could be the one to change her back to liking men.
