Is it normal i miss the old internet

I miss blogs. Nowadays it's all instagram influencers and vloggers which are boring because they're all the same. You could tell from someones blog design alone whom they were as a person and it was like having your own room on the internet where people could visit and leave their footprints in the form of comments. It was cosy and personal and people expressed themselves more.

I miss online forums with chatrooms where you had a profile with your picture, a guestbook and you could send DMs etc. It was a fun way of meeting new people and also way more personal and creative in how you could design your personal profile page. Nowadays it's all boring dating apps or facebook groups or sliding into someones instagram DMs which is just creepy and pathetic for the most part.

I miss the old Facebook. It was more interactive years ago and there were funny memepages and stuff that almost felt like a community. The admins would communicate with their "fans". No wonder Facebook isnt as popular anymore.

Anyone remember Stickam??? I loved Stickam and Younow is just a cheap copy. I hate Younow, it's boring and ugly.

I guess what im saying is I just miss how the internet used to be. It was a lot more fun and easygoing. Now its nearly always boring to use the internet compared to then.

Yeah, the IQ and mental health of the average internet user seems to have dropped over the years as well. It's all porn addicts, armchair psychologists, and political edgelords now.

I miss a lot of it, too. I definitely miss forums, which unfortunately seem to have gone by the wayside in favor of Facebook groups, which aren't nearly as good IMO. You don't have the anonymity (unless you create a fake account), the mods/admins tend to turn into power hungry control freaks and take their jobs way too seriously, and the groups tend to be flooded with poor advice and catty, high school-esque behavior. The forums could be hit or miss, of course, but you had your anonymity and there seemed to generally be a better community in the ones I frequented. Though there are still forums, most of them are pretty dead these days (and one of my favorites disappeared out of the blue one day, sadly).

I also liked the old GeoCities-style pages. GIFs, wild colors and fonts, and that classic early Internet design. There's something so fun about it!

I miss old YouTube as well, before the ads and insane censorship.

I feel like Google used to be so much more accurate around 10 years ago as well, rather than showing the same stupid BuzzFeed articles, ads, products that only very vaguely have anything to do with what you're searching for, etc. It seems like you have to do so much digging to come across what you're looking for anymore. There used to be so many great sites I used to have easy access to and can't find for the life of me anymore (of course, I guess they could no longer exist as well). Same with products I bought years ago and used to be able to pull up with a quick Google search. While I know some of it may have been taken down over the years, I have a hard time believing almost all of it has.

Anyone remember when you had to type the whole URL in the search bar instead of using a search engine like google/yahoo?

Yes, and if you typed something into Google and spelled it wrong, it showed no results.

I remember when google first came out & I thought people were talking about those googly eye glasses.

There are still blogs out there... I'm planning on starting a new one soon on assisting people to become more successful and start businesses.

There are some forum sites where users register and have various discussions on topics - with a private PM system.

You do have to look for them though...

    • True but they're more rare and yeah you have to look for those oldschool sites...meaning there won't be a lot of users active especially from a smaller town like mine. One of the old forums I used to hang out on as a teen is still active but with like a 100 users online at a time which is a tiny amount really. It's mostly abandoned. Sad stuff

I used to like Newgrounds and Ebaumsworld. I haven't been there for a long time, but I'm assuming a lot of their historic content is dead now, since flash player went.

Yeah I never got why people stopped using MySpace and started using Facebook instead. I didn't really use either of them back then tbh, but Facebook just looked so dull compared to MySpace.
