Is it normal i have no respect for authority?

Police, doctors, teachers, other government officials, the President, legislators, etc. Anyone in a position of power, I question the hell out of their authority.
I also question the laws, too. Unjust and unfair laws should be broken.
Also, I read a study where children who talk back to authority more are less likely to be abused by authority figures (particularly coaches and teachers).
Anyhow, am I normal for not respecting anyone in authority?

Liberals love authority now. Being punk now is loving the big man.

The current counter culture is conservative.

          I'm under 30.

I had a punk rock friend in highschool who went full entitled millenial after highschool and shat on me going into the military.

Least I grew up and have the better understanding of why america is superior.

Much respect for the Men and Women in the Military who sacrifice so much for our country.🇺🇸

Hell no he burned that bridge when he outright rejected me suggesting he joining up in the military. Our home town has not alot of industry, it was either the military or a crap factory job or college away from town. Dude wasnt in any of those three groups.

Breaking laws that feel unjust is not the best way to go about change. It also makes you a bit petty. You have never held real authority over anything, have you? Not everyone in a position of power turns evil. The bad ones are the ones you notice. Clearly the system is broken. But chaos and mayhem won't make the world better.

But I also don't know any kid who didn't disrespect authority at some point. You eventually grow up and become the thing you once hated.

Well, you know, it’s like what they say. If you’re not a rebel by 20, you’ve got no heart. If you haven’t turned establishment by 30, you’ve got no brains.

I think it's definitely normal to harbour some level of distrust for authority figures, it'd be naive not to. I don't think doctors deserve to be on that list though. And you should probably add corporate higher ups and religious leaders onto it.

Normal. Power is inevitably abused. Governments are by nature predatory they say you have "unalienable rights" but then they enact "emergency powers" making it so they can do whatever they want and nullifying your rights.

Power is inherently corrupting humans can not handle power they will inevitably abuse it.

but who says god approves of governments? Doesn't god say we should not bow to any authority besides himself?

It's about not wanting to lorded over freedom is the important thing humans have. Governments limit freedom. People are not helpless we are not sheep who need a shepard we can take care of ourselves. If we aren't free we may as well be dead. Our American predecessors said give me liberty or give me death for a reason. The point of a government is to to protect the peoples rights but they inevitably just end up looking after themselves.

      You have two things wrong:

      1) Freedom is not the greatest good; it is far from the greatest good.

      2) If the purpose of the government is to protect people's rights, that implies that without a government, people's rights are in a worse state than under a government, and your hatred of government is not because they harm your rights, but for some other reason, since, without the government, your rights would be worse off.

The ultimate purpose of humans is to obtain the true happiness present in heaven. God is the greatest good; there is none greater, and to serve God is the greatest good for a human being.

But wouldn't god want his creations to be as free as possible freedom means happiness.

            • Clunk42

God alone leads to happiness. God did want his people to be free; he wanted his people to be able to freely choose good. If he did not, we would not have free will. He does not, however, want his people to choose evil, and ability to choose evil is something that American-style freedom entails. True Christian freedom (which is a good freedom that leads to happiness, because it leads to God) is a different type of freedom from what you believe is freedom.

I think to an extent its good. Its good to understand the "game" and how people influence science and teaching with their own little narrative. Everyones happy when its their own narrative being pushed but as soon as the coin flips they freak out. The coin will always flip. If you're ok with an agenda getting behind science or whatever dont play victim when the other side gets in power and they start pushing abunch of jesus shit. The coin always flips. Be careful what u wish for.
