  • This is the reason why chivalry is slowly dying because women won't allow us to be chivalrous. Honestly your friends are just being polite, so accept their kindness.

Im a woman and I agree with this. Personally, I'm delighted and thankful for the courtesy. It's a shame some other women don't feel the same way.

      • It is truly a shame. However, as long as there are women like you, who appreciate polite guys, like me, then chivalry will continue to live. I really do wish that more girls were like you.

Would you rather they slam the door in your face or pull your right under you so you fall flat on your ass?

I hate that too, but not just because guys do it. I opened the door for my dad, and he told me to go in but I get so pissed off so I told him to just go in because I already opened the fucking door and I was being polite Jesus Christ we don't live like Jane Austen people anymore.
And I hate it when people in cars stop for me and slow down because it'd just be faster if they just went!!

  • Because you're being brainwashed into thinking that somehow this is a sign you're being belittled instead of just a simple courteous gesture. Maybe if you stop dividing the sexes into teams it wouldn't be such a big deal for you any longer. Most times the guy does it to get a smile or the slightest human contact from a stranger on the street-or maybe he wants to show you a little respect but doesn't know how else to display it. One way or another it certainly isn't a negative thing... unless you're just an uptight crab.

Obviously you grew up in a city. Anyone with any courtesy does this, regardless. I was told some time ago that I shouldn't do it for others; that I should do it for myself. I open doors for others to preserve myself, and I could give a shit about what others think of it, no matter their relation to me.

I only open doors for girls i think are pretty than i pretend im going to slam it shut on them.thats fun because they were never expecting it and we both get a kick out of it.i also like to hold it open and do that 'waving them in arm motion' as if to say 'right this way princess'.if it is people i dont like i actually stop and let them go first and make them hold it for me.hehe

I'm a guy and I open doors for everyone! A smile and a "thank you" is MORE than enough to repay me. Just a simple acknowledgement that you appreciated the nice gesture is enough to put a smile on my face.

You shouldn't have to think that just because someone does something nice for you, they're all expecting something in return. Nice people don't expect anything back.

  • Nothing says asshole like being polite, right?
I open the door for everyone, male and female. I think you're looking too much into this. Perhaps you're "weirding out" over this because you want it to mean something more than just a friend being polite.

Beat them to it! Like when you're about to go into a building make sure you're in front of them. Oh, and when you're about to sit down just grab the chair fast, and open it for yourself.
