Is it normal i don't understand the hype of paranormal activity?

Specifically the first one, I have never seen any of the sequels. I know I saw the version with Katie being shot at the end.

I watched it in complete darkness as a 13 year old tween girl, perfectly ready to be scared. I did jump up from my seat that night and screamed in terror, but it wasn't because of the movie. It was because of a spider descending from the ceiling on it's web to directly in front of my face. Now *THAT'S* real fear!

I just felt like I watched a bunch of nothing that led up to a big anti-climax of something that seemed more sad than scary.

I almost feel like it's an Emperor-has-no-clothes situation where no one wants to admit the movie wasn't really that scary because it was doing something "new" and got really over hyped because of that.

It was rubbish, like most "found footage" films are.

I feel like pretending to be afraid of the Paranormal Activity movies was the movie version of being afraid of clowns--you don't actually find it scary you just pretend to find it scary because it makes it more fun..?

Some are afraid of clowns. Not me personally but my mother use to freak out over circuses and going to Chucky cheese. Clowns, mascots, if it was too unrecognizable it bothered her.

Oh, I know that the fear of clowns is a legitimate fear. What I meant was that I'm pretty sure the number of people who claim to be afraid of clowns far exceeds the real number, like people claim to have the fear because it makes the cute or quirky or something

Yeah a lot of it's fake, as some people who quit those shows have said. But as someone who has experienced a possible paranormal event, I don't discount that they exist.
