Is it normal i cant lucid dream

I dont know why I cant.
I was able to make myself have sleep paralysis once which was so stupid because its an absolutely horrifying experience.
The way you can trigger sleep paralysis is almost identical to how you make yourself lucid dream so why cant I do that ?!
I've been keeping dream journals. I am an expert on the recurring themes and situations in my dreams which is something i've read is necessary to recognize that you're dreaming.
I've had some extremely eerily realistic dreams sometimes but they haven't been lucid. More like being alive briefly in an alternate universe if anything...But I wasnt in control of anything.
Two years ago I did succeed for a few seconds. What happened was in the dream I was talking to someone and suddenly went in my head "hey am I dreaming right now?!" and when I realized I got so excited I got up on the table and basically woke myself up with that wave of excitement.
I've meditated a lot before sleeping in periods too. That hasn't triggered anything either.
I wonder if insomnia and not having a sleep schedule affects this.

I've had insomnia all my life and I accidentally taught myself how to do it back in high school. I kept doing dumb shit like constantly observing the time on the clock and saying things like "its [insert morning, noon, or night], I'm at [insert place here], this is real, I'm real, and doing other weird observations in real life. I eventually found myself doing that shit in my dreams and became aware of how my dreams made no sense like time on the clock saying something bizzare, or how I was in school at night, or how I was somehow a six year old attending 12th grade. Once I made the connection that it made no sense, I'd just start exploring and changing stuff. As I did it more, I was able to change things more. I am incapable of having nightmares now. I wish I could do this shit when I was a child. XD

Maybe try different time and technique.
Mine always works better at dawn.
Wake up, body still half a sleep, keep a thought, staying with it staying with it staying with it. No body movements. And fall a sleep with awareness. And in the dream to avoid waking up I always use being aware trick. A sense of being. That avoid waking up while knowing it's a dream.
Another trick I used and succeeded.
When wake up body zero movement. But a sense and a thought I'm getting up. Just a mind a play and at one point I was kicked out, I'm up but in sleep same in my room.
Another trick I have heard but haven't had any results because it exhausted me is keep body still when go to bed and keep my self still while mind is Aware. Didn't work for me woke up morning so exhausted.
One trick always worked for me is, close the eyes to sleep slight eye movement to the upward like you're trying shambave maha mudra. This make a small distance from you and your mind and body. And you go to sleep while you are seeing that you are dreaming which sounds like stupid but it's real. You can do lucid in that too.
But not sure would these works for you. But you can try if you want. Just don't over do it. Because it's a huge exhaustion
