I need to learn to drive but can not afford it

I am 25 and do not have a driver liscense. My mother and father would not help me get one but helped my younger brother happily and for free. I was considered a worthless servant and was told to do everything by myself becuase it was not thier responsibility to take care of me. My brother learned drive at 19 and my parents bought him a car and motorcycle. Im no longer living there but I am 25 and have not gotten it. I have trouble finding people to help me consistsntly enough to learn properly. What should I do about this? Should I just buy a car like my freind said and practice with that one?

I acknowledge that's a shitty situation for you, but if you can't afford to learn to drive how are you going to afford to buy a car and run and maintain it?

    Would your brother help you?

    • I do not talk to brother anymore but he was also against me getting a liscense. Enough lessons would cost a months paycheck or I can spend that same amount buying impound lot car. Otherwise I going to have to keep spending all my money on exspensive lessons.

So how would that work? You'd have a car, but presumably you wouldn't be so stupid that you'd drive without insurance. Have you looked into whether you'd be able to get insurance on a car you own without having a valid drivers' licence?

        • You can insure a vehicle without a liscense. Also if you find a good deal can get as cheap as 20-100 a month. I would just need person with liscense go pick it up for me.

I have no idea where you live and if it's a practical, possible solution, but I think if I were in your position with minimal income and a need for motorised transportation, I'd think laterally and consider a moped. In lots of places, you don't need a licence of any sort to use a moped with a maximum speed below a certain number.

Mopeds, scooters and motorcycles are much more dangerous than cars since you don't have metal wrapped around you and you're so exposed to the idiots in semi-control of tons of metal hurtling around on the roads, but you can reduce the risks by going on a basic course to learn the right mindset for being on two wheels, getting some decent safety equipment and making sure your lights are always on.

It's definitely not ideal, but we often have to accept second-best in life because the best solution just isn't possible.

    • I already have a bike. I need the liscense for a better job becuase its part of the job description. I have a bike already. So I need to get a liscense. The jobs I am trained to do all require a driver liscense.

I mean I hate to tell you to do something illegal. Do you have a friend with a drivers license? Perhaps you can buy a cheap car on craigslist for 1500 and have your friend drive it back to your place with you in it. Then when yall get time ask him to take you to a parking lot somewhere and show you how to do it.

I feel your pain about the parents thing I had the same situation but when you get older you'll be happy about it because you'll be more independent than most people.

    • I mean not really. It means I have to spend a crap ton of money from my job thats temporary and maybe be homeless afterwards. Theres nothing positive about this. Also im 25 im past the piont of "when you grow up".

I've been homeless before. It does make you a stronger person. When you figure all this out you're gonna be like me and be tired of people playing victim. Life is a mother fucker. You can do it dude. You're gonna be sick of hearing crybabies in their mommas basement complaining about "the evil rich" too. Watch and see.

Keep saving money and then get proper lessons. No reason to be stupid, save a few hundred bucks and risk your life and other people's lives.

Why is your family against you learning to drive?

    • I don't have that kind of time. I am already paying lessons but they are exspensive.

Nobody said it was gonna be easy... You think you can just buy a shitbucket and drive? No, you can't... Unless you're ready to spend a lifetime in jail for running someone over. Sure, you could get really lucky and be the perfect driver, but chances for that are about zero.
It's astounding that in the US, professional driving training is not mandatory... Any adult can teach you the basics, then you do a bullshit parody of a test and can drive a bus-sized RV...
        Idiocy at it's finest...

I have over 500000km on me, I got a car, truck, bus, motorcycle and boat license. And I've never taken any of this lightly. You are in charge of a big metal slab that can go really damn fast and can cause some serious damage. You need to learn how to handle that thing properly.

Pay for your lessons gradually and become a safe driver. Not just another retard lane hog, that stares at a phone while they drive and get annoyed when honked at for almost crashing into you.

        • I mean its not like I have not driven before. Also the assumption that everyone practicing is going to kill everyone is pretty negitive and dumb. I know you are probably anti driving but honestly you can't assume everyone is going to die. That nervous negitive nature behind a car is bad. You have to be alert but calm. You can not panic. Your logic is pretty flawed. Also I am not an idiot who wanta to go racing down the highway at 100 miles. I need the liscense for transportation and a better job. Honestly I would rather not have to drive but thats how life is sometimes. Also you know nothing of the US becuase driver school is mandatory under a certien age. Also paying a driving school till im broke when I have a job that will only last a year is unrealistic. I really do not ispire for homelessness.

The idea that someone with the username "megadriver" who's expressed the views he has in the past is "anti driving" is really pretty funny.

You may not like what he says and I often have problems with his views, but in this case he's talking sense.

You're the one making a post with hardly any info in it. How the hell am I supposed to know you know how to drive a car. The vague way this is written screams - Random guy with no clue about cars wants to drive, cause driving...

Also Anti-driving, really?! Bro, I love driving. Why would I have a license for just about everything there is to drive, if I didn't love driving? Why would I buy a junker S600 and an E24 to restore, if I didn't love cars. Why mod an E420 CDI to 400+ hp if I wasn't a car guy?. I love driving, I love cars, I love restoring and detailing cars, making sure my rides look like they just came out of the showroom.
I'm a car salesman, my life revolves around cars XD

First time I saw anyone call me "anti-driving"... Normally folks get pissed off cause I'm a car and driving fanatic XD

If you feel you are confident enough to take a driving test, do so. Get a license and buy a car. Drive carefully and continue to improve as you learn new skills and rank up miles. Practice makes perfect. Fits just right as a slogan for driving.

            • I mean I thought I gave enough relevant imformation already. In America most state or Fed jobs aside from the military require a driver liscense. America for the most is also very car centric and most things revolve around driving. If you are not American though perhaps your country works a bit differently and its not required. I mean I guess I should not be assuming everyone here is American. So I apoligize for the confusion. There is also the possibility you just come from a very wealthy family or are extremely educated so got around needing a driver liscense. So the need for it never once crossed your mind. Either way its needed when you have unsupportive parents, do not have a bachelors and what you are trained in at permenent companys require a liscense.

Pay your younger brother to teach you to drive his car.
