I'm afraid that i have suddenly developed diabetes.

I am a 22 year old white male and diabetes runs on my dad's side of the family. My aunt, her son, my dad, and my paternal grandparents all have had it. I eat a lot of sugar and this is my main reason for worrying. Within the past three or so weeks, i have been peeing more often. Within the past three hours i have peed 3 times counting what i will do after posting this. It's not every hour, and i do not have to get out of bed at night because of it. I used to pee about 3-4 times a day. Now it's probably 4-8 times a day. I hear that that is normal, but it's more than what i'm used to doing. I feel like a bottomless pit when eating sometimes, but I'm not excessively hungry (my stomach is not hurting or growling). I woke up very thirsty one night and thought about getting up for water, but this happened only once. I peed in a cup today and smelled it. I could not tell if it smelled sweet and i did not taste it. My blood sugar was perfectly normal in January of this year when I had my well check up. I don't plan on going for another one until next January. I have not increased the amount of sugar that I eat, but I have not drastically decreased it either. i love having deserts with every meal, including snacks. My breath does not taste fruity. I hate exercising. Please give me your opinion on my situation. I will start cutting back on my sugar intake. I may edit this post later.

Having the pee more and being more thirsty sounds like you could bet getting diabetes. Definitely. I know those are symptoms for sure. Are you overweight? One thing you need to start doing NOW is, do not consume HFCS. (high fructose corn syrup) That can actually CAUSE diabetes, and if you already have it, it's really bad. Also, dandelion tea is a good natural herb for it. Plus dandelion tea has many other health benefits. Make that and drink it instead of water. It doesn't taste bad unsweetened, it's like walnuts or something. One other thing, cinnamon is a good natural herb for diabetes. Natural herbs are so much better than pharmaceuticals. If you want more info let me know.

I started attending Cardio Rehab yesterday after a heart attack a couple of weeks ago and your opening sentence reminded me of something we were taught: it's not what runs in your family that's important it's how much you run .... or at least exercise.

There's ample researched evidence that exercising is not only good for many conditions but is also preventative of many. There has to be some form of exercise you'd enjoy, even if it's only walking nearly every day.

As for the diabetes, get yourself to your doctor and be tested!

I've always had a weakness for sweet junk food, so I hear where you're coming from. Eating lots of sugar is a bad thing for several reasons, but you can break this habit if you want to. What works best for me is reducing the temptation to snack by making sure there's a limited amount of sugary rubbish in the house, so I just make it a point to avoid that section of the supermarket when shopping. Exercising my limited will-power then is easier than trying to hold on to my good intentions when I know there's lots of yummy chocolatey stuff in the cupboard.

Your concern about diabetes is rational, but the way you're dealing with it isn't. In fact, obsessing about symptoms, hoping that you don't have it and avoiding finding out if you do is actually pretty damn stupid. Go on Amazon and buy some blood glucose test strips. They're not expensive, and give a result in seconds.

The medical consensus is that eating sugar doesn't directly cause diabetes, but there is a very strong link between obesity and diabetes. You don't mention if you're overweight, but many (perhaps most) people who develop diabetes in adulthood are. There have been medical trials in the UK recently which found that many obese people with diabetes can reverse the condition and return to normal blood sugar levels if they change their eating habits and get back to a healthy weight.

Since it seems that you might have a genetic propensity to develop diabetes, you'd be wise to keep an eye on your weight, especially as you get older. Many people can eat pretty much whatever they want when they're your age and not gain weight, but as you get older, the pounds seem to pile on more easily.

First, when the weather gets cold, most people piss more often. You are not sweating out fluids like when it is hot out.

    Anyways...

They are always diagnosing people with that.

If someone is under 18, they automatically have autism/ADHD/whatever.

18 to whatever age - diabetes.

Later years - automatically have COPD.

Oh yes, doctor love to prey upon people's morbid fear of terminal ailments.

ONE thing - if they decide to say you are type 2 diabetic (adult onset diabetes), they will prescribe metformin. It makes restroom visits a bitch, screaming shits often occur.

You would be much better off adjusting your diet than taking that med. Even worse, metformin has NO recreational value.

Truth is, you probably have nothing to worry about.

Are you the kind of guy who thinks he's going to die because he has a zit on his nose?

The word for that, as I am sure you know, is hypochondriac.

Work on being healthier. If you can't get a hold of someone's else's blood sugar monitor, just go buy one or head to the doctors.
