I hate maintaining my body, but it does not show

I have never been a daily shower person and never will be. I just don't see the point in it. When I shower, it usually takes me an hour from the time I step into the bathroom to stepping out. I feel totally clean for days afterwards. 10 years ago I was bathing once a week. Now I can't even get around to it once a month. I'd just rather be doing other things than wasting an hour of my time every day. Some people take a shower before and after exercise. It's beyond stupid for anyone to take more than one shower a day or 7 per week. It's a waste of resources. Just take one shower after doing whatever makes you dirty. I think that maintaining your body that often is just selfish and vain. My brother takes a daily shower even when he is already running late. Totally a waste. I usually only was under my arms so I won't smell. It only takes me 5 minutes.

It's totally unnoticeable because nobody complains. I only change what I'm doing unless it benefits me or somebody complains. I was talking to my friend at work and the subject of subject of shaving came up. I mentioned that I just save the hair off when she asked if used soap or aftershave. She seemed surprised and insisted on buying me something for washing my face. I tried to tell her that I wasn't going to use it but to no avail. She bought me a 2 in 1 face wash that was $13. She kept asking me if I tried it so I had to use the damn thing. It wasn't so spectacular to where I would permanently add it to my routine. I hope she doesn't ask me about it anymore because I'm not a good liar. She assumes I bathe every day. This is how I know my lack of bathing is unnoticeable. We work closely together and praise God she still doesn't know. She would probably majorly freak out if I told her that I almost never bathe. In fact, nobody at work knows this and hasn't noticed. My hair gets flakey but a hat is part of my uniform. Video games, surfing the internet, and just about everything else is more entertaining and fun to me than bathing.

I have no problem brushing and flossing. I groom my facial hair by plucking irregular ones out. I just can't let anyone I know beyond my immediate family, and psychotherapists know that I bathe approximately 15 times a year. This includes a weekend trip to the beach with 3 extra showers and about one per month. I'd die of embarrassment, even though there is actually nothing wrong with it. People would be freaking out over nothing. It's been like this for years and nothing would have changed. To my knowledge I still haven't caught COVID. Obviously bathing every day is irrelevant to catching it. I love spending my time on the computer or working. I will never become a bathing freak, and I'm proud that I'm doing this.

Theres no way you are showering once a week or month and no one can tell. Ppl just dont want to be rude. I use to work with a guy and you could tell when he showered. It was only once a week. He'd show up and his hair would look drier and he wouldnt have that odd trash-can smell. Im sure he couldnt smell himself. He had the weirdest smell like molded dorritos.

It sounds like you are doing mental gymnastics to compare people who regularly bath to being selfish. Seems like a superiority cope.

Agreed. I've had a couple of friends who didn't regularly shower (and also didn't brush their teeth 🤮), and as far as they were aware, nobody could tell. However, it was very noticeable and they absolutely stunk, had disgustingly greasy hair (the odd part about this is that they absolutely insisted on having long hair and claimed to care about it very much, but they were too lazy to wash or comb/brush it - one told me washing more than once a month seemed like too much work 🤣), and their breath was enough to make me gag when they breathed in my direction. They really thought no one would notice, though! One made excuses for why daily showering was bad for your skin, and the other had to be begged my his family to shower, then would just stand under the water and not use soap or actually wash anything, and this happened MAYBE once per week. Ironically enough, the latter was a self-proclaimed "germaphobe". 🤣

I also knew a guy in school who was like you describe your coworker to be; it was noticeable when he showered, because his hair would actually look dry for once (it was normally so greasy it looked wet), and the "trash can" smell would go away, lol. I always felt bad for kids like this in school, as I just don't understand how a parent would care so little to allow their kid to go to school like that.

Also agreed that the stuff about basic hygiene being selfish and vain is mental gymnastics.

It's gross, but if you don't really care for it, oh well. Just know if you itch down there, get infections, have pain when you urinate, etc. It could be due to not taking showers.

Just because no one brings it up absolutely does not mean no one can tell. In fact, your friend being so insistent on buying you a hygiene product and wanting you to use it, to me says otherwise. She is just being polite about it and trying not to hurt your feelings, most likely.

Whether you do much that gets you dirty or not, regular showering is a necessity for good hygiene, as just because you don't have visible dirt on you does not mean you are clean (and just because you don't smell yourself doesn't mean others don't). There's no reason a shower needs to take a full hour, either. I can take a shower in less than half of that time, even with washing my hair.

Also, how is showering "selfish"? I'd argue instead that subjecting people to your poor hygiene and likely stench is selfish, especially if you have to be in an enclosed space with them. Water is a renewable resource, no one is depriving anyone else if it by taking a shower.

You're delusional! This whole story makes me think that bullying isn't always a bad thing. A lot of people will refrain from telling a smelly person how badly they stick, because it's an embarrassing, and awkward topic. People probably call you stinky behind your back, and wonder what is wrong with you. All of this, and your general attitude about it is disgusting. 🤢🤮
