I feel worse about my body now i’m healthier

I was never fat but I’ve recently started working out after breaking up with my ex boyfriend who would mock and belittle me for being physically weak.

I am now much fitter, stronger and have a lower body fat percentage but I feel much worse about my body and I’m constantly noticing things wrong with it.

I used to be completely happy with my body and felt very confident but now I feel like I’m fat and unattractive.

I try to stick to a diet of 1250 calories but sometimes I binge on chocolate and then I hate myself and have even considered throwing it back up afterwards though I haven’t done that yet.

See a therapist, because your brain is in panic mode and you need someone who can talk you out of it.

You lost weight for the wrong reasons. You changed for your abusive boyfriend. He destroyed your confidence and your self image; now you're spiraling into a cycle of self-destruction.

    • I wouldn’t say he was abusive, he just sometimes made off hand comments about it. It was just that him making fun of me made me realise I needed to start working out.

        https://www.healthline.com/health/signs-of-mental-abuse

I've been there. I didn't listen to anyone either, so I understand your reluctance. I would also read list like the one I showed you in the link and dismiss it because he hasn't done EVERYTHING LITTLE THING on it; but it took me a long time to realize that he didn't have to do everything on that list to mess me up.

Please think about it. You were happy with yourself before him, why are you so unhappy now? You became what he said you SHOULD be, and you're so unhappy, why? Why couldn't he accept you for who you were back then? Why did he even make those comments in the first place when he knew what you look like before dating you? A man who loves you wouldn't critize you like that, especially if you were already healthy to begin with.

I'm not going to argue, because you still have feelings for him; but please think about it.

You need to relax. Happy is what’s healthy.

I agree, simply because there's such a thing as:

        Stockholm syndrome
        Codependency
        Unhealthy attachments

        ...and more

There are so many ways the brain can adapt to find the littlest comfort/relief in the midst of chaos. It's better to define what's healthy is something that isnt harming you or others in any way while at the same time making you happy.

So you can be 300 pounds with cancer and be healthy because you're happy? Come on now. I thought you were a teacher. What are you doing to these kids! 😋

But you already knew that! ;)

He's correct under a few circumstances. For example, who's healthier: a happy morbidly obese person who self harms or an unhappy average-sized person who doesn't self-harm?

            >happy
            >self-harms

            uhhh?
I also doubt that a truly happy person would be morbidly obese.

Y’all are just reading too far in. Fucking relax. Obviously a morbid obese person isn’t happy. Fucking idjits.

Some morbidly obese people are quite happy with their lives. If, from my example, you got the message that the morbidly obese person wouldn't be happy, then you read it wrong.

How was I wrong? The morbidly obese person who cuts their arms is definitely less healthy than the average-weighted person who doesn't. Happiness has nothing to do with it.

It sounds like an eating disorder or the beginning of one to me. You should see a doctor before it gets out of hand.

Try to focus more on what you can do rather what you look like. If you work on lifting a certain weight or achieving a faster time or whatever, your body will improve as your performance improves. I lift weights and just focus on hitting a certain weight or amount of reps a few weeks in advance and I find that constantly working to improve my performance results in an improvement in my appearance as well without even thinking about it. I dont have to look in the mirror or step on the scale to know im getting in better shape, all I have to do is look at the numbers in my training log and know I'm doing better than I was previously and im doing a lot better than most other people just by making a start.

1250 is a very small number of calories for a healthy person who works out to be consuming.

Yes that's correct. Not sustainable most likely. She needs to eat more or her metabolism will get fucked.

Yes I know but especially if your active 1250 is most likely too low. Are you hungry at all?

Maybe fasting and keto diet would work for you. That diet was so easy for me and I actually lost weight. If you dont eat carbs your blood sugar doesnt spike and fall so its easier to not eat. You can eat like 1 or 2 meals a day and feel fine. Your body runs off ketones and not glucose. You'll feel way different too. Its worth a try especially if you like high fat foods.

Its normal to feel bad about your body.

This person clearly doesn't need a diet. They're not fat, nor are they unhealthy. They are simply a person who was called weak and, due to their attempts to fix that, feels fat.

Correct except I am worried they may be eating too few calories to be healthy.

That's a good point. I've already stated that OP probably isn't consuming enough calories, but, now that you mention it, they probably are somewhat unhealthy due to their low calorie intake. However, that would call for the exact opposite of a diet, would it not?

Yes or as I would call it, a "bulking diet" or an intentional calorie surplus. Best advice would be to eat a little bit above maintenance for an extended period of time as opposed to switching extremes and eating way over maintinence which will anal rape your metabolism.
