I feel like a burden

I have developed tics over December 2020, and have had really bad migraines for 4 years. I'm going into high school (age reference).

I know it makes my parents sad to see cause they can't do anything about my pain and tics, and I feel bad.

I always imagine, before I was born, they're picturing having me, and I'm this normal kid, who has nothing wrong with them. But then, as I grow up, I start having these problems, and I'm not the perfect child anymore.

When I started having tics, my mom got angry and said "I don't want my kids to have anything wrong with them.".

She apologized.

I still feel like that's how she feels.

Less then a week ago, I went to the ER cause my migraine was just that bad. I'm better now, but I just feel so bad for what my parents have to go through. They just have to watch and do what they can, which is usually nothing.

They can't help.

I just want to start over and be what my parents want; what I want.

Aye, a Tourrete's syndrome homie, dont feel like a burden, you are a great person, love yourself, the more stress you have the more tics you have(at least thats how it worked/works with me) so learn to relax. I also bet that your mom didnt realy mean that

I feel that way, myself. I have had mental illness most of my life, and I sometimes wonder if my parents feel/felt that way. I feel like I was a "bad idea."

Can you explain these “tics” for me?

    • People with Tourette's have them. They're semi-controllable and can be motor and/or vocal. Definition on google: "Tics are sudden twitches, movements, or sounds that people do repeatedly. People who have tics cannot stop their body from doing these things. For example, a person might keep blinking over and over again. Or, a person might make a grunting sound unwillingly. Having tics is a little bit like having hiccups."

  • Maybe a different perspective on your mother's comment, she wants to do what she can to help you, instead of your existence with a developed problem making you a failure in her eyes

    • I know what she means, and we talked. When she apologized that day, she said she took it the wrong way, and just didn't want me to suffer.
