I don't understand how fat people can have anxiety disorders? ?

I'm do confused as I always thought anxiety only caused weight loss since I'm 23f and have an anxiety disorder where I can't put on weight and lost a shit ton these past 6-8 months especially :/ Not that I had much weight to me anyway. .I used to weigh 54kgs and now only about 50

I have read a lot of posts
of overweight people suffering anxiety. How does this work? ? I thought anxiety causes digestive issues and since it triggers the fight and flight response, causes one to not be able to gain weight.

I really want to put on more weight since I barely fit my clothes any more :/

How does this work?

Okay so anxiety can cause weight loss, but weight gain is actually common ..
In a nutshell the adrenaline that causes the fight or flight taps into your body's energy and at the same time a rush of cortisol makes your body think that it needs more energy to replenish what it has lost ..
        This makes you hungry ..
The increased cortisol causes higher insulin levels, your blood sugar drops and you crave sugary fatty foods ..

Anxiety impacts people in different ways. While you may not be able to gain weight because of it, other people won't have that issue. Like with my anxiety (which causes me not to be able to eat because it ties in with my eating disorder) against other people I know, who are nervous eaters and so gain weight as a result. It's a mental illness, so it's going to manifest in different ways for different people.

to add on and to maybe understand for some big people its just plan genetics this can play a big factor in someone's life, whether they are "fat" or skinny, it's not when people judge for someone's weight and that in itself can have a hard time on us, our bodies go through a lot and can be a lot of factors that go in to having Anxiety , you have to remember we are all human and it doesn't matter if your "fat" or not, sorry your feeling this way but everyone can get Anxiety

because its a Mental illness and that refers to a wide range of mental health conditions — disorders that affect your mood, thinking and behavior. Examples of mental illness include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders and addictive behaviors.

Many people have mental health concerns from time to time. But a mental health concern becomes a mental illness when ongoing signs and symptoms cause frequent stress and affect your ability to function.

A mental illness can make you miserable and can cause problems in your daily life, such as at school or work or in relationships. In most cases, symptoms can be managed with a combination of medications and talk therapy (psychotherapy).

Mental illnesses, in general, are thought to be caused by a variety of genetic and environmental factors:

Inherited traits. Mental illness is more common in people whose blood relatives also have a mental illness. Certain genes may increase your risk of developing a mental illness, and your life situation may trigger it.
Environmental exposures before birth. Exposure to environmental stressors, inflammatory conditions, toxins, alcohol or drugs while in the womb can sometimes be linked to mental illness.
Brain chemistry. Neurotransmitters are naturally occurring brain chemicals that carry signals to other parts of your brain and body. When the neural networks involving these chemicals are impaired, the function of nerve receptors and nerve systems change, leading to depression.

Certain factors may increase your risk of developing mental health problems, including:

Having a blood relative, such as a parent or sibling, with a mental illness
Stressful life situations, such as financial problems, a loved one's death or a divorce
An ongoing (chronic) medical condition, such as diabetes
Brain damage as a result of a serious injury (traumatic brain injury), such as a violent blow to the head
Traumatic experiences, such as military combat or being assaulted
Use of alcohol or recreational drugs
Being abused or neglected as a child
Having few friends or few healthy relationships
    A previous mental illness
Mental illness is common. About 1 in 5 adults has a mental illness in any given year. Mental illness can begin at any age, from childhood through later adult years, but most begin earlier in life.

The effects of mental illness can be temporary or long-lasting. You also can have more than one mental health disorder at the same time. For example, you may have depression and a substance use disorder.

What do you mean how it works? It just doesn't work like that. People have different outlets for their anxiety. It might be eating and it might be something completely different.

A quick google search could of answered this for you. You sound ignorant. Anxiety effects people in different ways and doesn't have to necessarily deal with weight loss. Besides, certain people have genetic disorders that cause them to have extremely slow metabolisms or other problems.

    • well excuse me for being ignorant once in a while.
There's really no big deal like yall are making it out to be. I simply had a question in regards to how anxiety works and we all can't know everything in life therefore, we are ALL ignorant in different areas until we learn.

As a fat human myself,I suffer from anxiety a lot.I can't seem to lose weight but I don't even eat that much. But people look at u like u r the reason of world hunger when u r starving and only taking one meal a day. This unsatisfaction creates anxiety in my case.

    • Well u haven't answered how on earth does it work then ? I've read many articles saying anxiety basic fucks up the digestive system. .well it's a obvious question then- How do some gain weight and even to the point of becoming over weight when their digestive system is poor and not functioning to its optimum to extract the nutrients

Your weight does not depend only on digestion. Anxiety can also impact or come from hormonal disorders, for instance, like Hypothyroidism, which tends to slow your metabolism and cause weight gain. To know about different cases, you should ask a doctor for statistical studies. No one here can help you. Besides, not every patient with gastritis experience serious weight loss, and obesity can even be an aggravating factor in gastritis. It depends on how badly your digestion is impacted, on how your endocrine system responds and on many other factors. Besides, obesity is a health complication, and thus it can cause anxiety per se.
