I don’t think lockdown is worth it

I’m in the UK where we are still in pretty much full on lockdown and the massive effect it is having on the economy, my education and my social life are not worth protecting the vulnerable and elderly.

My university have announced that they are possibly postponing in person classes until summer 2021 so now I have to get into £50,000 of debt just for fucking zoom calls and power points. Also there is no longer any night life or social events and I have lost my job so I am going insane being stuck in my house.

I know that young/healthy people still have an absolutely minute 0.1% chance of being seriously ill but the lockdown is for the most part, to protect the elderly and those with underlying conditions and it is not worth it. I’d rather the old and disabled people just die than ruin my whole life.

It's not being edgy everyone who would survive covid 19 (99% of the population) are being fucked over by this shutdown. Sure the lockdown was good for slowing the spread so the hospitals could stock up and we wouldnt overwhelm the healthcare system. Now that we are over the curve you cant just change the date of reopening to till a cure is fabricated. It's a fucking virus theres is no cure. A vaccine wouldn't even help because it mutates because it's a virus. People still get the flu because influenza mutates all the time, cant eradicate the flu, same for covid.

Get off your high horse of "caring for everyone" its life people die it's a plague. What WILL be worse is the 100,000 small businesses in america that are closed FOREVER! I dont care if 250,000 people die in america because the 300 million people are suffering from the lockdown. We are caring about the greater good here, theres no bad side of the argument! You want to save the few at risk by sacrificing the livelihoods of the many!

I agree with this, not sure why you were getting downvoted. People are unfortunately going to die either way, and you can't let the masses suffer for the liberty of a few.

People are downvoting based solely on their feelings and emotions. They literally just care about peoples lives and are not thinking about their livelihoods and local economies. We are selfish because we want our businesses open to feed our families?!

If I still had the capacity to downvote I would do so for people openly insulting the OP. The OP isnt wrong, people who want to open are in the majority.

Yes, that's true. I'm not sure why there are so many drama queens in the comments acting like the world is ending over a virus that isn't even that deadly to the majority of the population (not to mention how the numbers have been fudged and hospitals are ruling certain deaths as COVID-19 when there were other bigger issues at play; one "COVID-19 death" in my area was someone who was already actively dying of stage 4 cancer, for example) and anyone who is thinking realistically is basically Adolf Hitler.

Yeah I have a MASSIVE problem with doing death counts like that I saw one where a baby died of the virus. The baby? Extremely premature but that had nothing to do with it right?

Nazi no longer has the punch it used too. Racist as well, insults are like currency, you inflate the market too much it loses its power.

I clearly did since I disproved your "hes just being edgy" bullshit. Peoples livelihoods are being destroyed, that isnt an emotional argument that's a precursor to having enough pissed off people to drag your mayors and senators out of the state house and killing them because they killed your buisness yet walmart can stay open because fuck your livelihood we need people with already bad medical conditions to keep on living at the cost of peoples life works and dreams. Put value in peoples lives if you actually want to figure out when you can reopen without kneecapping the local economy.

They would rather sacrafice the many to save the lives of the few. That is logically wrong. I'm not a moral person, but I can still see the stupidity of keeping the lockdown in effect even though we are past the peak!

They're only sacrificing the convenience of the many to save the lives of the few. I doubt many people will actually go homeless from this. So it's only sacrificing the financial stability of the many to save the lives of the few. Besides, getting past the peak doesn't mean anything if we go back to normal and create a new peak, one that's even worse than the peak we had.

HONESTLY. I’ve been saying this. Old and sick people and those who live with and take care of them can self-quarantine but the rest of us should be allowed to go back to normal. Especially at this point when everyone’s well-informed about it. We can still avoid hugs and handshakes but it’s ridiculous that all the non-essential stores and restaurants are closed. It’s getting infuriating.

Yes, that is a completely logical conclusion. But Democrats tend to think with their hearts and not their brains. They perfer to allow big corporations enjoy being monopolies while snuffing out small businesses but we are being selfish.

I'm from the UK (London) but now live in Pattaya, Thailand. The shutdown "cure" over here has been much worse than the disease, so many people with no work, no social security over here, no money, the crops have failed the last two or three times so people are getting pissed off. I wonder if a civil war will happen, it's close!

Civil war is gonna happen in alot more places if people in the state houses refuse to lisen to their own people. Especially if the populace is armed.

In the USA, things are opening back up.

I do agree though that at some point, the quarantine thing is causing more harm than good, especially for something that may not even really exist (covid 19).

It is also true that if someone is vulnerable or afraid of covid 19, they can quarantine themselves. No need to make an entire population suffer.

Maybe because people everywhere is getting annoyed at constantly shifting reopen dates. Will I go to work today? Can I walk my dog without getting arrested? Sunlight kills viruses, but we cant go outside because???

Yeah the whole thing has shifted from a virus to a political argument. Notice each political party has taken an opposing stance on opening or not. Seems like a lot of people are waking up to that.

Do you think the constant conflicting information and changing goals of the quarantine are an accident, or a planned thing?

Bit of both. Both sides were in agreement for the initial lockdown. Democrats want to extend it past necessary to save as many at risk people as possible. while Republicans want to open up businesses so they dont shut down indefinitely. Either way shifting when the opening of your local businesses on a whim is a massive fuck you to people banking on opening during that time.

China has the lowest standards for everything. They put their biological research center 300 fucking meters from an open air fish market! Fuck yeah we are going to sanction the crap out of them if not go into war with them.

When china sends its aid it REQUIRES the receiving country to publicly thank china. That is 100% bullshit for saying they are trying to help other countries.

China also held on to the fact that it can be passed person to person for SIX DAYS. How the hell can you think that this isnt 99% chinas fault!

You're angry, lonely and tired of the quarantine; you need to do something productive. Put pen to paper, and start writing about your feelings. If you have a smartphone, or a camcorder start making a video diary about your life, and what's going on in your part of the world.

You are quite right it should have been a comma, my apologies. When I read that type of post, from waste of space pieces of shit like the OP, it just makes me angry that anyone can be so selfishly thoughtless. I think that just blurs my thoughts and I end up using the wrong punctuation or something.

        • noneoftheabove

No need for apologies. I just can’t go past incorrect grammar without pointing it out. I should have been an English teacher. I can understand the frustration of the OP. None of us are enjoying having our lives restricted but I guess you only have to look at the mess the USA is now in to see the devastation that such self centred attitudes create. Trump always wants to be number one in the world with everything. Well now he is leading the way with the highest number of cases and deaths.

I’m a bit on the fence about it all. I believe that there must be some restrictions on movement however the nanny state control tactics are extremely over the top in many countries. The rules are inconsistent and confusing. For example, I’m not allowed to sit alone on a beach surrounded with space but I’m allowed in a crowded supermarket! They keep pushing this idea about social distancing but then they restrict restaurants from having more than ten people no matter the size of the premises. It really doesn’t make sense and so I understand why it angers people but saying that we should just let old people die is extremely thoughtless and selfish. I’m pretty sure if it was members of his own family he would not feel the same way.

I agree, this lockdown is as stupid as it gets. In the state I live in 80% of the deaths are in nursing homes. They are inflating the death count, a person that is positive for Covid but is asymptomatic then dies of a heart attack will count as a Covid death. The virus had nothing to do with the death. In America this has become political, the Dems want to keep the lockdown going as long as possible no matter how much it hurts people.
