Let's say you know an acquaintance who seems like the really serious type. Looks serious, acts serious, doesn't smile much.
One day, she or he texts you, asking about work/school matters. At the end of their text, there's a :D or a ^_^ emoticon. How would you feel about this?

Omg he's so into you.. No, seriously I think you are over analyzing his or her use of smiley emoticon. People do that all the time :D
It just means that this person is also human. You should be glad that this person is open to you! Also some people are serious at work but emotional outside work.

Honestly speaking, *I'm* that seemingly serious person who uses smiley emoticons every once in a while. I was wondering whether the people I've sent smiley emoticons to were freaked out or not about it, so I asked this question.
My first thought is that it isn't really them, but someone else using their screenname/phone..lol. It has happened and I always have to ask if its really them.. or then ask if they are drunk or something..
