How would you feel if your sister had to go to dialysis?

Sister 50 went on dialysis and may be on it for the rest of her life. I am one sibling of 5 in this dysfunctional family. I am thinking all of us should drop are dysfunctions and come together for our sister., But is this logical thinking? I know it won't help my sister but it will make her happy to know we all care.... but will it? ..or will it be a mistake (a come-together in a tragic time, and after everybody go back to their selfish ways.

Let your sister know YOU are there for her.
As for expecting the rest of the family to come together...you're probably setting yourself up for disappointment.

I would probably feel awful. My sister had to put her elderly, blind and insulin dependent poodle to sleep a few weeks before our nearly 82 year old mother passed away of a heart attack. I honestly think if someone had to get sick it would probably be better if it were me. Oh, of course my sister would probably complain that if died she would be all alone, and that would probably annoy me, because she always talks about that stuff already.

I think you should try to be the best version of yourself for your sister, and pray for her recovery. I don't think you should waste your time, and energy trying to change the rest of your family. We are all powerless over people, places and things.

I'd laugh. Laugh a bit more and then perhaps a few more giggles. Best part no one in my family would visit her since she disowned us all

I would be very, very sad. I have one sister who is 33, one who is 31, and one who is 6 (stop it, Dad!) It would destroy me. I'm the second to last youngest at almost 27.

Rough family, but when my 33 year old sister got cancer everyone seemed to be able to stop being morons for her treatment and be there for her and for her to get better. She's cancer free now and is becoming a dental assistant. I'm happy she's able to be here for my nieces.

I hope you can provide comfort for your sister. I wish I could comfort you in some way <3

Going from just the title - if it was my younger sisters I’d be heartbroken and do anything I can for them. If it was my older I’d send a text at the very most. She cut us all of 6 years ago and so I barely even view her as a sister.

But in regards to your situation it’s basically impossible to repair a broken family, even in situations like this. Be there for your sister as much as you can, judge the people in your family who don’t show support, but be aware there’s no way you can fix your family. I hope your sister is able to return to a normal way of life
