How to not get fat if i quit

I sorta want advice

Sorta want to vent

It's 50/50 atm

(Triggering topic for some people)
I have BED (binge eating disorder) for some time, it was accompanied with bulimia but I managed to overcome it as my body wouldn't respond to how I was treating it anymore(my gag reflex didnt work every time).

I put on weight and started up smoking and I've found over the years of smoking that I've become more reliant on smoking rather than food.

The BED is still there however, I'm in a better place now than I once was. For that reason, I keep wanting to quit smoking but I keep putting it off. I heard people often gain weight when their taste buds become more active again. For me, the idea of putting on significant weight is terrifying, I already suffer from insecurity in that regard.

I need to think of ways to cope healthier for quitting, that don't involve letting my BED or taste buds get the best of me, and quick because I've spoken with quit smoking counselor and we've got a quit date for me.

If theres anyone who's smoked before and quit, please tell me of how you cope with the weight gain. Also I want to say although you may not know me, nor I you, I'm proud of you.. I've had addictions in the past and overcame them, but for smoking something about it just feels that little bit harder to do, it ain't fun, going into it you know the damage it does but people preach it to you everyday as if you don't know... it's stressful, it's hard but I know we can do it, I know for sure I can if I really do try hard as possible because I've over come a myriad of addictions before

Try to get on some kind of exercise routine, play a sport or go to the gym or something. The main thing is finding something you enjoy, then putting the effort in to get good at it. For me it's lifting weights or boxing. If you have a coach or a friend who is also involved, or if you are part of a team, it will be a lot more fun and easy to stay on track and keep making progress.

Obviously this will burn calories, but it will also help you to incorporate exercise into your life in a good way, rather than seeing it as a task that you have to do, and will also give you some structure in your spare time so you're less likely to resort to eating or smoking as a way to pass time or relieve stress.

Are there any sports or exercise classes etc that you think you may be interested in?

I'm not sure if this will work, but I've heard it does. Try to exercise or do something productive whenever you want to smoke. This will help you quit, and also lose weight.
