How to fix rancid walnuts?

boil a cup or more for 10 - 15 min, drain and spread on a baking sheet at 225 degrees for 5 - 10 min... is this the method? or how do you do it?

    I usually just wash them in the shower & throw on a little Gold Bond powder.

    As someone who had food poisoning the other day from the free Trail mix at work, I'd just throw the walnuts out, buy new ones, and make sure not to let them sit in the pantry for so long next time.
