How much is “normal” for “tipping” a barber or a pizza delivery person?

Just Wondering cause my friend was bitching at me that I didn’t tip the pizza guy so that makes pizza guys mad when you don’t include a tip???

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

In the UK and Australia, where I have lived, people get paid properly for their work so it's not normal to tip them unless the service is exceptional/special. I am not responsible for paying the wages of other people's employees after I have already paid the advertised price for a product or service. That is bizarre American logic.

With a pizza delivery driver I would be quite taken a back if he expected a tip. It's his job to deliver the pizza so why on earth would I pay him extra for doing his job? I've already paid for my pizza. The transaction is completed.

If there's a flood or a big storm that the kid has courageously battled through on his push bike then yeah, he gets a $5 tip. That's one of those exceptional circumstances.

In Europe people often tip, but they only tip a few Euros.
You only tip more for exceptional service. People in Europe have proper job contracts and get paid enough, so they don't have to rely on donations from their customers.

If the weather is bad, I give the pizza guy 2 Euro.
    I don't tip my barber.

I only tip more than 10 Euros on restaurants where the service was great and the atmosphere was fantastic.

      • Australia.. Not sure if I have ever been in a situation where tipping is necessary. Maybe, I just don't think about it. As far as I am concerned the employees are already paid a wage for a job so why would I give em more money

Yeah dude you gotta tip. I usually tip the pizzaman 5 dollars. 8 dollars if its raining. I tip the barber 8 dollars too.

I wouldn't tip either of them anything, but then I live in Australia where at least in theory workers are paid rates of pay which don't need to be topped up by the random generosity of customers or clients. That system seems to me to be potentially manipulative and lead to a lot of resentment and guilt.

I always over tip for I don’t have to do math. The usual tip is between 15-20%

I tend to be closer to 25% so I don’t have to so more math 1/4 is easy

Yeah. You should tip. I worked at a pizza joint. Drivers made $5 an hour and washed dishes. The minimum wage is 7.25. Barbers and hairstylists have to pay the shop to use a cubicle and essentially only make tips. Some people do get really mad because they probably have bills and kids that want to eat.

    My tip:
    Go find a different job.
    I DO NOT TIP.
f you lazy bastards just showing up.
doing the bare minimum and expecting a tip.
you expect a tip for bringing the food I ordered?
Do you share your tip with the salad prep person, the dishwasher, the soux chef, the line cook, the bus boy, or the cashier?
    No? Then f you.
Its not as if you worked any harder, or as hard.
    I tip for 1 thing.
    exceptional service.
    If you do it perfectly.
Ill toss you a healthy tip.
    You think Im a bitch?
Do you tip the cashier at walmart?
No. Because thats their job right.
And your job is your job.
    Not better or worse.
So unless you do it perfectly.
    You dont DESERVE a tip.
