How many years before a relationship is considered long term?

I've been with my boyfriend since August of 2015. People keep asking when we'll get married. Is our relationship considered long term? I have no intention of ditching him anytime soon since he's a stand up guy. We'd also like to get married one day but now is really not the time for us financially.

One to two years 7
Three to four years 8
Five to six years 1
Seven to eight 0
9 plus 0
A few months 1

Ltr is more of an attitude and view point than a time frame.

When two people get together and decide they are going to be monogamous or even just committed to each other, when you go into it with plans that this is for the long haul. When you make plans for each other in your future and vision yourselves 5, 10, or never ending years down the road.

Some will say it's not a ltr until 6 months or 5 years or some other time frame. I used to say 6 months for myself because most didn't last that long.

So there are at least two answers. 1. When you or others look at a relationship and say that is or was a ltr. 2. When you are judging the relationship you are currently in.

Some will say, you can't call a two month relationship an ltr because it may not last and may end anytime. That is true, however, I've seen 20, and 30 yr relationships end just as suddenly. I've seen a 2 or 4 month relationship break hearts and be as, or more emotionally upsetting than the 20yr marriage that ends in divorce.

So judge by the feelings and heart not time. Do you both care if he or she is there tomorrow? If you don't, then it doesn't matter if you've been together 1 month or 5yrs it's not an ltr.

After a year it becomes a long relationship. 6 months is around when you start to lose the new relationship shine.

    I’m 26 and I consider 2 years a long relationship, I assume 7.5 years is long by anyone’s standards.

At 5+ years just get married at that point. Do you like them or do you want another partner?

With some exceptions, like if one or both partners were under 20 when the relationship started.

And some people reject the idea of marriage.

I seperate legal and religion marriages for that very reason.

Legal marriage is just another peice of paperwork that should streamline the tax system. Two people who share income streams do work fundamentally different than two single people.
