It took me quite many years to be honest.
I was completely head over heels in love and the guy was a pyscho behind his charming, handsome surface. That one year relationship was one hell of a trip... It tore on my mental health as well as completely crushing my heart.

    • It was a really intense relationship for me. I'm not sure how common this line of thinking was but we truly believed we would wait for each other forever, so when we broke up it felt like my entire future had disappeared.

Afterwards I'd assumed it would take maybe about 3 months to move on, but now... it feels like it might take much longer.

There’s no set timeline for getting over a relationship. It can take months, it can take years. Forget about timelines and forget about how long it took other people. Focus on processing your feelings, moving on with your life, your goals, your friendships and your hobbies.

Don’t beat yourself up for feeling sad, this will eventually pass.

    It depends of course.

I think this is very subjective and depends on the person and the relationship. The length of a relationship doesn't necessarily dictate a person's feelings about said relationship/partner, plus some people take longer to get over breakups than others.

I think it took the summer between school years to get over my 9 month high school relationship, but I still held a bit of a grudge about what had happened for about a year (I was stood up for one of my good friends; I was pissed at both the friend and the boyfriend).

With my 1.5-year relationship in my late teens/very early 20's, as bad as it sounds, I didn't grieve the relationship at all. There was just nothing between us, and the relationship should've ended long before it did.

Like a week, high school and the relationships you have there are so far separated from your adult life after that. Nothing that happened in high school really meant anything.

Never had one technically. I mean my gf is about to get out of highschool (shes 18 I have already checked within 5 minutes of meeting). So I'll tell yeah if we get married or break up.

High school relationships are like fireworks- intense bursts of big feelings that fizzle out very quickly.

Enjoy them, learn from them. Don't get too hung up on them. In a few year's time they will all just be blurry memories of people whose names you can barely even remember.

id say like 1 month-1 year, its a highschool relationship, would you REALLY expect it to last a long time?

At the most, six months. Most of the relationships a person has in high school are insignificant and will be long forgotten when you're an adult.

Probably around a year or so because you've grown out and probably have forgotten about the crush that you had.
