Help!! do you have too many thoughts going through your head?

I constantly live in my head. Too many thoughts for my mind process. But when it comes to speaking or focusing its like there are too many thoughts in my head to do so. Obviously its not normal, but anyone else have this or no what can fix it?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • If it makes you feel better, my mind's always racing too. It takes me forever to fall asleep even though I'm always exhausted. Sometimes I feel like I'd just rather stay up just so I don't think of stupid stressful things right before I go to bed. I think it's starting to become a problem.

  • Probably you have too many thoughts about you having too many thoughts. Yes, brain has only one switch off - your death. So it can't be switched off while you're alive. Too many thoughts really may become annoying and of course you want to cope with it somehow...
Turn your head to ZEN. There are so many exercises to calm your mind. There are so many things which can help you sort out thoughts.
I use walking when i'm too anxious about smth. Intensive physical exercises help you "forget about those thoughts". When your body longs for a rest, your mind doesn't interfere.
BTW, do you really need to fix it? Pour out your thoughts on paper, it'll ease your mind. Start it today, or thoughts would pile up and bury you. D'you want to be buried in such a way? :-)

  • I have the same problem.

I took meds to shut my mind off, but honestly I didn't like it once it got shut off. I found it to be like a loss of control.

What I found was, I liked it during the day but when it comes time to sleep I just want to be knocked out or else I'll sit there all night.

I just find it's nice to take narcotics once in a while, and to sleep, because they allow me to choose when/how I think whereas other drugs change who I am 100% of the time and don't allow me any control.

In short, drugs and alcohol are the solution for me.

  • I take anti-depressants and after a few months there are no thoughts or voices in your head anymore. It's just silent. It's a nice break.

    • I'm skeptical of anti-depressants because i have tried them once before and I just felt loaded down and feel like a complete zombie

      • Depends what you take. What works for one person doesn't work for another. I was on 20mg Citalopram and the first few days you feel wrecked but after that you feel normal again and your brain stops talking so much shit. I still hold down my job perfectly fine. I now take 10mg as I'm weaning myself off them, I feel totally normal and no-one knows I'm on them. Prozac didn't work at all for me though.

        • Yeah prozac was weird for me. I tried a number of different medications my mind got incredibly foggy and I gained weight.
I'm wondering if finding physical acitivities or some sort of non-medicated way to deal with the depression. I heard that the depression medication just covers the feelings up instead of overcoming and facing the depression head on. (Not trying to say that is what its doing to you, just something I've read on the internet)

          • I think you've got to be on them long enough to see. I was severely depressed for about 20 years and they have really helped me. I do go on and off them over the years. I do always feel the need to go back on them eventually. So maybe you're right they don't CURE depression but they certainly do help. As far as I know the cure is meant to be the psychologist while the tablets just let you focus on what you need to instead of listening to the worst all of the time. I found a great psychologist and I haven't been depressed for a whole two years! I'm mainly on the tablets for anxiety now but like I say trying to come off them now anyway.

            • Wow okay that's awesome to hear. It makes semse to have a psycologist along with meds. Well i hope everything continues to go good for you. I'm going to a psycologist January 2012 and I might get some very low mg anti-depressant or anti anxiety shortly after of I choose to see a psyciatrist.
The side effects really make me nervous.

  • It's completely normal especially if you're female! I struggle with sleeping as well sometimes, because of all the thoughts that go through my head it's crazy but, it's alright, nothing to worry about, just try not to stress :)xx
