Harder to sleep earlier than sleep later

Why is it so easy for me to ruin my sleep schedule by staying up late? A month ago I would always be asleep by 12 or 1 am. 2 weeks ago I'd sleep by 2 am. In the last few days I've gone from sleeping at 3 am to past 5 am. Help

Is It Normal?

  • The only way to fix it is to practice sleeping at those times, and stay on track. Don't just jump back to midnight, but try to sleep a little earlier each night. If that fails, try melatonin. If all else fails, see a doctor.

  • Wake up at a set time (i.e. 8AM), and you'll readjust quickly enough.

  • You just have to bite the bullet and get up at a decent time for a few days in a row. It will be horrible for a couple of days but your pattern should shift very quick. If it doesn't then maybe head to the docs because there can be medical reasons for this.

Also to make this first couple of days easier on yourself you could try reading before bed. So if you want to fall asleep at midnight, go through to the bedroom, get in your PJs, have a cup of camomile tea and crack open a book. Hopefully it will get you off to sleep a bit earlier than usual. I know this all sounds very lame but I promise you it helps.

The other option is to have children. You will develop this magical ability to fall asleep in minutes at any time of the day or night.

  • See a doctor. There's a thing called DSPD (delayed sleep phase disorder) where your sleep schedule is naturally stuck later than it should be. Look it up.

  • Just set an alarm and when it goes off, force yourself to go to bed. If you don't have the willpower to do that, you aren't gonna get far.

  • I do the same. And I have no idea how to fix it either. Sorry babe
