Forced to compete against someone i feel bad for

So recently a coworker has had it out for me. He is constantly trying to outdo me and hurls insults when I do better than him.

I was promoted this last weekend and it pissed him off enough to call me out, in front of multiple people, and challenge me to a competition at work. I regret accepting.

I hate competitions, and I know for a fact that I will certainly win his challenge. But I feel bad because it’s obvious his ego is riding on this thing now.

I’m solid and confident in my ability, so I don’t need this extra validation, but it seems important to him.

Back out of the challenge 0
Let him win 0
Win, slightly 0
Win, by a large margin 6
Other (help) 0
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Win. That'll show him and his huge ego. No reason to feel bad for such a shitty and annoying person, I sure wouldn't.

Tell him that you would prefer not to participate in this stupid competition, and if he gives you a hard time about not wanting to do the competition then beat him like he stole something in the competition, and mop the floor with his stupid ass.

Show him that you deserve your new position. If you lose, he'll just be like "Ha. I knew you didn't deserve that position." You shouldn't feel bad for him, as he's clearly a piece of crap.
