almost all food you buy in the store has food color in it, the only way to avoid food color is to grow and can your own food

As long as it's from a reputable source - as in not some crap you got direct from China that cost two bucks for five litres or something - food coloring should be safe, since the compound will have gone through testing for toxicity at some point.
Some people believe that at least some colorings have harmful effects, but the FDA and other regulatory bodies don't agree.
My personal opinion is that it's safest to avoid synthetic compounds as much as possible, so I've hardly ever used the stuff in home baking, but many - if not most - processed foods contain one or more colorings and we're not all dead yet.
As always, you pay your money and you take your chances.

Anyone with any sense knows that food safety standards in China are shit. Not only is there a lot of corruption, there are loads of tiny, back-alley companies flying under the radar and producing counterfeit goods of all sorts - including foodstuffs - which are then sold on ebay and similar sites to stupid people who only care about price.
Saying that any sort of food or chemical that originates in China should be treated with great suspicion isn't racist; it's basic common sense.

What in the world are you getting out of drinking food coloring?
The stuff is tasteless - which is why it's suitable to be used as a coloring agent - it's non-alcoholic, and it's completely inert in every other way.
