Drinking salt water

I like to do hard cardio workouts several times a week. I use to always get bad calf cramps when I slept and after my workouts I literally felt like I was dying or something even if I drank a lot of water to rehydrate. But I started to put about a tablespoon of Himalayan salt in my water and chugging about 14oz of water after my workout. And about 45 minutes later I feel completely recharged and good to go. I never get calf cramps anymore unless I dont drink enough salt. And if I feel one ill just take another teaspoon worth of salt.

I believe what is happening is since I wear a hoodie when I run I am sweating so much salt out of my pours that I have no salt left in my body and replenishing that makes me recover faster.

You’d do better with Gatorade, which restores your electrolyte balance.

Himalayan salt looks prettier than boring old Morton's, but it's virtually all sodium chloride with trace amounts of iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium that tint it pink. In order to get nutritionally useful amounts of those other minerals, you'd have to consume a lethal dose of sodium chloride.

If you want to continue doing your little bit to support Punjabi salt miners who work in pretty awful conditions and helping out with Pakistan's balance of trade, carry on buying Himalayan salt. But there's nothing magical about the stuff, and there are cheaper and better ways to ensure that your body can maintain its correct electrolyte balance.

There’s way too much extra shit in Gatorade.

Its long been known that you need to recharge electrolytes after exercise.

Potassium and Magnesium are also items that are typically needed after exercise.

I wish you well with this.
